The Celtics are looking forward to the return of Kevin Garnett, and he is progressing in his recovery from knee surgery, according to president of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

“Kevin looks good, he’s in here working out every day,’’ Ainge said yesterday from the team’s practice facility in Waltham. “He’s doing his training, but he’s not playing full-court basketball yet.
“We’re taking it as slow and as cautious as we can with him. He’s anxious and he has a ton of energy, but I think he gets it. We don’t have bodyguards on him to keep him from working too hard. He’s on the program with the staff.
“We don’t have timetables on this. We are going week to week and we’ll make a decision on where he is.’’
http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball ... _progress/To be honest, this article is not something I wanted to read 5 weeks from opening night.
"We don't have timetables on this." ???
"We are going week to week..." ????
Please tell me I'm just being paranoid.

These comments aren't particularly positive. It sounds to me like KG won't play much, if at all, in preseason. Since February 19 against the Jazz he's played only 4 games (67 minutes) so, 8 months later it would be reassuring to hear that he's "running wind sprints at an incredible rate" or something like that. Maybe Ainge is just trying to confuse people but I doubt it. I think KG will have a tough, grind-it-out type of year. However, I should mention that nobody in the NBA is a better self-motivator. I'm a little worried about KG but I think the Celts will be OK regardless of his status. Perk, Baby and Wallace are all legitimate starters and Shelden Williams is mediocre and Scal is just there.

Maybe? Ainge is a master manipulator, I havnt trusted him once since he said Antoine wouldnt be traded then a couple days later he was gone lol.
And sadly Id def take Scal over Shelden

It's about 9 months to the finals. Personally I'd be worried to hear that a guy coming off surgery was going at it full speed at this point. The trouble with KG has always been that he works so hard all the time, if they've got him working out in a lower gear at this point in the offseason IMO that bodes well for later in the season.

I'm secretly worried. But trying to not acknowledge my feelings for now. It isn't even the regular season yet.

Really? You would be worried to hear that he's doing well? Wouldn't the "him doing well"part override the cautious "we should save him for the playoffs" part?

If you have KG in your keeper fantasy league I would be worried, dude is going to be on the slow road to the postseason. They have to keep him under wraps because of his workout routine but even once the season gets rolling I expect him to be a pretty restrictive mins limit through the first half of the season. They didn't just spend 9 mil on Sheed and Baby for no reason.

He is by all reports doing well. Everything I've heard from the Celtics has the positive spin on it.

I don't know what you guys are looking for. Give me a quote from Ainge or Doc that indicates that the recovery is not on track.

How about all the quotes from last season that he was fine and would be playing in the playoffs?
I love the Celtics, but I sure as hell don't trust anything that comes out of the front office. That's why the front office is so good at what they do.
