Below reads that James White was the 1st pick for the Portland Red Claws...

Yet the wiretap reports that the Nuggets acquire White in a trade with the Rockets..what am I missing? Does this mean that he is not on the Red Claws roster?

They simply have his D league rights. If he doesn't make the Nuggets and is looking to play in the D League they have his rights. Any player in the D league that isn't under contract to a NBA team, on assingment, can be signed by an NBA team at any time.

I wonder what the chances are that he makes their team.

Currently the Nuggs have 3 off-guards on its roster: J.R. Smith, Arron Afflalo and James White. Denver has 13 players under contract since Kleiza signed overseas. I'm guessing the chances of him making the team are pretty good but the chances of him staying with the team for the entire season are slim. White played 6 games with the Spurs in 06-07 and 9 games with the Rockets in 08-09. White has benefited from good coaching but there must be a significant reason why Popovich and Adleman passed on the guy after just a few games. I think the title of this post suggests that problem. James "The Flight" White, like Gerald "G Money" Green, prioritizes high-flying sensationalism over every other aspect of the game of basketball. I would love to see White play with the Red Claws but I highly doubt he could beat-out TA, Walker and Giddins for PT on the Celts.
