Pierce: Boston's Title Window Is Still Wide Open

Post#1 » by kgnwally » Sun Sep 27, 2009 11:45 pm

Celtics star Paul Pierce believes that the team will contend for a championship over the next handful of years.

"We put a team like this together knowing most championship contenders have like a five- or six-year window," Pierce told the Boston Globe. "This is our third year. Hopefully we have a few more years to compete but were trying to get it done now."

While it's conceivable that the Celtics could contend for a title for several more years, there are some question marks about the near future.

Ray Allen is entering the final year of his contract and has made it known that he's interested in an extension.

Trade rumors involving Rajon Rondo swirled this summer and Pierce said recently that he sees himself playing for another four seasons, the first indication he's given to life after basketball.

Honestly the celtics have this year and next year as the leagues best team if 100% healthy. But we will have to wait and see how kg's knee holds up and how much rasheed has left in the tank. the way rondo and perkins continue to improve it covers up the aging of our big 3. but pierce is at his peak right now i believe and ray allen just had his most efficient year. with our new bench and added depth if we keep the team fresh we can make runs for the titles 18 ,19 and potentially 20 if we get any big name free agents this summer or next

We hear a lot of talk (or hate) about the Celtics being old and their window closing. While there is an element of truth in it all, it is blown way out of proportion.

First off we are not that old. There is no one on the team that is looking to retire in the next year or two. So even if we make no changes at all, 3 years from now we would still have (a probably improved version of) Rondo Perk and Baby as well as aging stars in Sheed, KG, Paul and Ray. 3 years from now I would think they would all still be able to at least contribute. Each would probably be better than most teams have at their 6th man spot right now.

My point is that while our window of being head and shoulders above the league in pure talent may be closing, our window for being a very good team will be open for a while. Either till our old 4 retire or we trade them for something and see what that brings us.

I wouldn't expect Pierce to think anything different. If Remember The Titans teaches us anything it's that "attitude reflects leadership." Pierce is a great leader because he believes in himself and his teammates.

That was unintentionally comical, although it's always sad to see someone so delusional...

Nothing says "I have no life," like cat picture humor. That Magic board must be pretty sweet.

Why wouldn't he be trolling here? What do they have to look forward to in Tragic land? Wince Carter and more offensive genius from Dwight Howard? Oh, I forgot, Jameer Nelson for MVP!

Its not being blown way out of proportion. You do have some very good points , but your forgetting that your competition is getting much better and younger. Meanwhile since your bench isnt so deep and your big threes have to carry the load which requires them to play more minutes and thats where the age comes in the picture.

Paul's right the window is still open. But 3+ years - we can likely forget about it. The key factor is will our star players still be guys who at any given moment can play like the best player on the court.

We hear alot about improving young players and all that jazz.. But the truth is most of those guys (with maybe the exception of Rondo) will end up being also rans. Much like guys like Brad Lohaus and Sam Vincent. Teams just don't go from big time stars to be carried by late first round and second round picks.. Perhaps Rondo can be our Reggie Lewis (minus the tragic heart attack)..But guys like Reggie and Rondo are the exception and not the rule..

Our championship run was a good example. Paul Pierce willed himself to outplay Lebron and Kobe.. Back in the day is was Bird outplaying everyone or McHale.. Stars win in the NBA. Will our stars still be operating at max salary levels in three years? That's the question.. The past history of athletes indicates the answer is no..

Danny knows this and boasts how he would have traded the big 3..so PP and RA and KG could end up on other teams before all is said and done. That kind of makes me sad..but it is a business.

Learn to read better before you jump all over people like some whiny pre-adolescent which is exactly what you're coming off as with all your hostility. I was talking to the Magic fan who posted the pictures, not you. I called him a troll for posting those images on a Celtics message board. Too bad that flew right over your head

You said I post troll **** on this board? If so, I DARE you to quote me, and back up what you said. I'm curious to see what you're talking about. As far as I'm concerned, I've only posted rational arguments on this message board and argued valid points. I've never taunted Celtics fans, thrown around insults, or baited anyone with my posts. Where's the trolling there? It helps to know what you're talking about first before running your mouth.

Oh and I suggest you take a look in the mirror, hypocrite. Between you and I, you're the only one who's been taunting opposing teams' fans (tragic, etc.), attacking other posters, screaming profanities, or supporting your arguments with "insults" about other players (ie. Bynum, Ariza, Vince carter, etc). No offense to you, but for a guy who's been here for 5 years as you claim, you don't exactly strike me as the type given your poor quality posts and the lowbrow comments you've made on this thread, and on others I've seen.

^Yeah I was wrong about the pics, but your posts still irritate the **** out of me. We are CONSTANTLY bombarded by other teams fans who seem to have nothing better to do (like sticking mainly to their own board) who post here and stir **** up and then act shocked...SHOCKED...that we C's fans get irritated or taunt other teams/fans...gee, I bet we're the ONLY board that does that, right? (/sarcasm)

And what am I supposed to do, think your team is great? I'm a lifelong C's fan, so of course I'm a homer for my team. Yeah they lost to the Magic...I'm supposed to be thrilled and not bummed and thinking if we had KG we'd have won?

Where in any of these threads did I expect you to think my team was great, or to be thrilled that the Magic defeated the Celtics? Where did I insinuate that taunting doesn't occur on other boards? I don't see where you're going with that, because I never said or implied any of those things.

And I don't really give a damn if my posts irritate you or not. As far as I'm concerned, as long as I'm not trolling, baiting, or attacking anyone (which I haven't done), I can post wherever the hell I want. This is just one of the many boards I post in, and that isn't gonna change because you are bitter about it. If you have a problem with me, then go take it up with the moderators instead of acting like some immature clown. See where that takes you.

Look I know we've had battles & I'm not here to start 1 with you, but maybe if you would ever venture outside of your own sand box you would see everyone is not on the attack. You take it that way like this board is for Celtic fans only. True NBA fans like to go all over & get different perspectives from all sorts of fans. I've enjoyed mixing it up with you guys & got a totally different spin on some things I wouldn't have known between our 2 teams had I not ventured over here.

If you don't choose to venture out, that's your perogative, but don't think that everyone that does is out to cause problems. I know that there are some that do, but I whip them up with the quickness & send them on their way. Most guys in here I love posting with (including you). So don't take it like that because you know good & damn well if our teams are the best all year, you're going to see me in here like people on elm street see Freddy in their dreams!

+1 well excpet the whole you're going to see me in here like people on elm street see Freddy in their dreams!

But seriously this goes to all Cs fans and I have said this before. I like to post on here as well as other boards, and I wished some Cs fans and other fans would do the same on the Lakers board, but I have to admit this board use to be really bad before I use to come on here with all the troll and attack insults, but now its good talking Basketball and ish at the sametime.

For the most part other than vct33 everyone here seems to be good peps. As far as vct33 no hate on him, he's just a kid who needs a hug or a good kick in the rear every now and then............
