Rajon Rondo??

Post#1 » by bendyone » Sun Oct 11, 2009 1:10 am

k.....first of all...long time reader....first time poster.....

here goes......Last season I felt asthough the C's wno alot of games because they had some great players, not because they played great team basketball.....at times they were clunky....other times lucky....alot of the time riding super star coat tails....but not playing great team ball....well, thats my observation anyways.

So far....2 preseason games and they have been clunky....I know, I know...only preseason...but still....clunky and not great team ball...

So I wonder...where does this come from? I began thinking perhaps it was RR....not a true point guard.....does he struggle to facilitate? I like the guy....is getting better.....but is he not as true a point guard as we need? This isnt a trade RR thread.....just a question....would this team be better served by a atypical point...a set em up guy.....

Thoughts?

Oh.....and I hope Sweetney makes the team

I think they're playing great team ball personally. I think we have an extremely cohesive top 9, who all know how to pass, spread the floor, and have an intelligent, balanced attack. So I guess I see the opposite.

Last year there were 4 players in the league who had more assists per minute than Rondo. Of those four, two don't play defense. All of them are older than Rondo.

In other words Rondo's near the top of the league now as a facilitator and he's gotten better every year. Can we keep him?

Because of his efficient passing of 8.2 assists per game in 33 minutes of play.

Sometimes I see the same thing. But I'd say Pierce is more responsible than Rondo. Pierce tries to be Kobe a little too often, imo, and go iso, holding the ball too much, and forcing his game. I hope Pierce can cut down on his turnovers.

I was talking more about this year's team Bendyone.

Last year our bench stank so that necessitates an offense more focused on the best players.

This year we have a solid 9 man rotation, which will enable a more balanced attack.

I can kinda see thise year and agree with u Alcf...preseason is a time to get it together...but last year Rondo avg 8.2 cause he sould throw it to 3 future HOFer's who can score...just saying.....some times its the tools you have in the shed...not the person using them....

And perhaps your right chas0x01....I think paul had an "Im the reigning finals MVP" attitude last year...perhaps that was why we looked clunky

Q. Could Rondo run the sixers? What would he avg?

I think that if Rondo would be on the Sixers he would, first off, avg more minutes. And his totals would go up. He would get more looks and more posessions where he would penetrate and kick (PP and Ray sometimes hold the ball up in our offense).

But I agree to an extent that the C's can get a bit stiff on offense and lack the flow that some other teams have. But I don't think Rondo is to blame. I question Docs offensive plays. For instance we would run a play where Kendrick Perkins would be throwing a lob pass in to the post. I just don't get that.

I would also like to run more Pick and roll, instead of the illeagal pick and pop feat. Eddie House.

But to Docs credit he has gotten everyone on the same page and when things are flowing we are one of the hardest teams to stop, because of our firepower. And a big part of that firepower - that arsenal - is Rondo. He is a very good point guard and I don't understand why people are so down on him. I guess the people who follow Ainge blindly are setting themselves up for a scenario where Rondo gets traded away and they've already started to justify that.

It's been a very long time since the Celtics have had a PG as good as Rondo. He is way better then Kenny Anderson was when he was playing here (offensively they're not that different as players). I really can't think of a PG since DJ that is better then Rondo.

Rondo is one of the most exciting players in the league.

We're a defensive team. Our O isn't always gonna be top notch, but our D will bail us out in the end.

Rondo defers to the big 3, imo, a little too much. The offense can also look a little flat sometimes because at times Rondo doesn't go for his offense when he should. We saw in the playoffs that Rondo has the ability to absolutely kick butt. I think Rondo could be a 17/10 guy with a lower but still good fg%.

Rondo is a very good assist guy. Around here people think he is the best player on the C's. I don't think that's the case but he doesn't have trouble facilitating. He is a very talented passer and ball handler.
