Perk news......a new weapon....

It’s interesting to note that Perkins’ game has expanded as his weight has decreased 15 pounds. “Being in better shape makes him a better player,” Rivers said. “He can run up and down the floor more. Last year if a game started quick, three minutes into the game Perk got tired. That led to fouls; that led to substitutions. “A lot of (the improvement) is because he was able to condition. Last year with the shoulder he couldn’t run, because it affected his shoulder. This summer he had a chance to play basketball, he had a chance to run and condition - and I think that made the biggest difference with him.” Boston Herald

I read somewhere that he has been working on a hook shot as well. Call me crazy but I could see Perk making an AllStar team at some point in his career. If keeps up his slow but steady improvement. Not to say he'll ever be a star but non star centers have made it.

And can you imagine what a fantastic team leader and example he's going to be by the time the Big 3 wind down? He'll have 10 years in the league and, I hope, three rings by the time he's 28.

I think we were all expecting improvements from Rondo, Baby, and Perks. But of those three I thought Rondo would show the most improvement, and Perks, the least. We're only two preseason games in, but there's no denying that Perks is noticeably faster and smoother on the offensive end.

I love Perk. It's hard to find players that improve every single year in the league. Perk has done that. Every October he comes back looking a little better. He's slowly but surely developed into one of the most effective centers in the league.

I am sure he will be like a PJ Brown type.. But like PJ he is going to need some talent to do anything of note with the Big 3 gone..

Yeah I like that comparison for Perk. But it is true, his talents will only be noticed if there is great talent around them, like there is now.

I glad this topic wasn't about a guitar case and a shotgun.

Pacer fan ... is there any chance, outside of injury, that Perk loses the starting spot to Sheed?

I don't think perk will lose the starter spot. There are enough guys in the starting lineup that can score the ball, Perkins is more defensively minded and a nice fit with Rondo and the Big 3. Perk should be in there banging against Howard and the rest of the best centers in the league. And Sheed should ( hopefully ) have a field day against other teams bench players.

That's what I was thinking. I'm being offered a keeper league deal involving Perk and if he's going to be demoted to a bench role, that would certainly influence my feelings about it. Sheed used to be quite a good defender and if motivated (unlike the last few years in DET) I suppose he could compete with Perk.
Thanks for responding!

Perk will definitely start but Sheed may play more mins and finish. I think Doc really likes his offensive versatility at the end of games.

Perkins will remain the starter but his minutes might get cut slightly. Remember, Wallace is backing up both Perkins and Garnett. A cut in Perkins minutes could help as it was allow him to be a little more aggressive and possibly get an extra block and rebound.
I have Perkins in my keeper league, out of curiosity what is the other part of the deal? You also could look at another player from you own team who could be phenomenal for years to come, Roy Hibbert.

I was giving up a late 1st round pick for Perkins. I could have drafted McDyess but there's no telling what his role would be and Perk is young. My thinking was that if Wallace cuts a bit into Perk's PT that his per minute stats might improve.
Hibbert is gone, unfortunately. My team was desperate for someone with C eligibility and reliability - I only had Tyson Chandler (read: not good). I'm not really sold on many of the rooks available at this stage of the draft so I figured if Perk would still be starting it'd likely be worth the pick.

Perk is our only real true center I don't see his minute getting cut that much if at all.Because of there age and health reason I could see Doc trying to limit Kevin and Sheeds minutes at least to the post season. I'm really interested in see how many MPG Glenn Davis is gonna be getting.
