Sheed: 'C's Can Surpass 95-96 Bulls record'..

Post#1 » by BRUNiNHO91 » Sun Oct 11, 2009 3:18 pm

Rasheed Wallace believes that this season's edition of the Celtics could go down in history as the best team ever.

"I think we can get that Bulls record," Wallace told Connecticut News on Friday, referring to the 72-10 mark that Chicago posted during the 1995-96 season

Wow..that's saying alot. 72 wins is alot of wins...I like the confidence, but I really don't see it happening..we probably crack 60 again, without any major injuries...but 72?
I just hope the trolls don't turn this into a 'Boston is cocky sports franchise' bullshxt thread...sheesh..lol...

I think the C's, Lakers, and Cavs all have a chance to do it. They have the talent. But it's a question of whether it's wise. I think we will opt to rest guys and stay cautious, which may cost us a few wins. So I think mid-60's is likely but 72 probably not.

If we are all healthy I think "can we get 72 wins" should still be a valid question come mid season. I hope we see more blowouts this year.

How many games did we win last season with KG out all that time, and all those other injuries? This team might not lose a single game. haha jk, well maybe not. :D

If the Lakers, Cavs, Magic, and Spurs weren't all sooooo amazingly talented like us. I'd say why not be cocky. As of right now though, in years past this team would of been a clear favorite for repeating titles... all the contenders are just so stacked this year though.

i disagree completely that other teams are stacked like you. First off the Magic got worse in my opinion. Vince Carter is a down grade from hedo. Vince is just like his cousin t-mac, hes not a winner. He will hurt that team. The cavs added shaq, but that is not the shaq of old. If healthy the celtics could have beaten them last year. Plus you just added sheed AND Daniels. The spurs you are correct about. They are going to be tough, and that will be your opponent in the Finals. The winner I have no idea, but its going to be a wonderful battle. Now for the lakers, ron artest was on my fav. team last year, which was the rockets. he is not going to make them better. he doesnt play within the offense, and i doubt he will even be able to understand the triangle. KG will pimp out Gasol again if they play, and pierce on any given night is just as good as Kobe. Bynum is overrated and will get beasted by Perk. As far as the bench, Id take sheed, house, big baby, and daniels over odom. thats all they have. Farmar and vujacic suck. they are talking about not even extending farmars contract. sheed > odom, daniels > walton, house > farmar, Big Baby > whoever there backup big man is

40 regular season wins and a championship is a successful season. 75 regular season wins and no championship is a failure season. I hate any focus on regular season garbage records, they're barely more meaningful than pre-season or summer league records.

This is going to be a very fun year to watch. I can't wait for the season to start.

And most importantly from this, it says Sheed's going to be motivated.

For comparison's sake, Shaquille O'Neal was quoted as saying after the Cavs second preseason game against the Bobcats, that he'd be able to say (only) around next March or April if the Cavs have what it takes to win it all.

Take that for what it's worth

I'd prefer what Sheed said going into a season.

I agree. I don't want any part of a 70+ win season. As old as we are, we wouldn't have anything left for the playoffs.

It's the '96 Bulls, not '95 (1995-1996 season).

And just like that Bulls team, If we do match or beat the record (which the Lakers and Cavs have a chance to so as well), it'll be because of the diluted nature of the league and the great disparity between the top 3-4 of teams and the rest. Personally I think it's more fun with better competition.

I think you're discounting Ryan Anderson and Brandon Bass contributions. Also I don't see any way that Hedo is better then Vince. In any catergory.

And I'd 100% love to have my last second shot man to be Vince Carter who has so much experience there and has been the man all his seasons, compared to Hedo who simply isn't talented enough to be a true triple threat.

If everybody on the team stays healthy and motivated and in the groove and therefore each individual has a better than expected season then the Celtics or Lakers, or Cavaliers or Magic could plausibly get to 75 wins. In the Celtics case the older stars can't be affected by aging. In each teams case the mental state of the team matters more than overwhelming talent when chasing the Bulls record. The teams can't play half hearted games on the road against fired up bad teams and expect to win often enough to take the Bulls record.

If all the Celtics (especially House) who played in the playoffs last year can paly 90% as hard and well day after day in the regular season as they did in those playoffs and the whole team stays healthy and KG and Rasheed and Daniels all exceed expectations and Hudson or somebody else also contributes something then the Celtics will take the Bulls record and Rasheed Wallace will henceforth be known as The Prophet Rasheed.

There's no question that the Celtics are immensely talented. I think it's more of a question whether everything goes in their favor or not. On paper, I think each of the top contenders (Boston, Orlando, LA, Cleveland) have the 'talent' to accomplish such a feat, but the catch is, there is very little margin for error. A short stretch of off-games, injuries, and so many other minor details could easily spell the failure of such a lofty aspiration. It's no surprise that it's only been done once in league history.

Damn' Sheed, really? You guys got a fountain of youth in the Fleet Center I don't know about? The C's best players are 3,14,11,13,14 years into their NBA careers; I guarantee the C's will not get that record.

Possibly make the NBA Ffinals, possibly win the NBA Championship, I can see that, but break that record, no way.

Best record in the East is going to be huge, one of the big three in the East is gonna have to match up with ORL, while the #1 Eastern Team will hav a far easier series. That could be a big factor in determining who has the edge going into the Eastern Conference Finals.

I don't want that record. Didn't like us running 110% to get to 27-3 and stinking it up until Mid-January afterwards. A steady improvement towards perfection in June would suit me more. 55, 60, 65, 70 wins. I don't care.

But I like Sheed's style :)

The Lakers and Celtics and maybe the Cavs can get that goal - based on recent records and talent levels.

However, being objective as I can here, I think of those three, the Celtics are the most realistic because they have greater veteran presence which can hold it together mentally.

The Cavs rely too much on LeBron.

Kobe has all the boxes ticked, but Artest is a nutter and no way Bynum and Gasol are on the same level mentally.

Where as Boston has four guys in PP, Ray, KG and Sheed to stay focused and get the job done.

Of course all teams must be healthy and I don't think they will do it but they can come close.

Return to Boston Celtics
