Long shot idea, need some help figuring it out...

The post about trading Ray for Monta and Jackson got me thinking, could a deal where we trade Ray and then get him back go down? I know it is a real long shot but things are slow and I really enjoy figuring out these kinds of things.

It would have to work out that the front office decided that they didn't care at all about spending more money and likely getting a an overpaid player back. But if there was a near max star out there that a team simply wanted to dump, could we trade Ray (any maybe someone else not in our main rotation) and then get Ray back.

What would have to happen? They'd have to cut him or buy him out right? I think a buyout would be more likely as some sort of deal where he gets the money back in a future contract with us would have to have already been decided upon. If we was bought out, it aoids him going on waivers right? So we could bring him back for the min this year and than give him our MLE next year?

If my thinking is right for this trade to work we'd have to be getting a guy who over paying for is still worth more than what we think we can get with next summer's MLE. So it is a 1% kind of thing, but COULD it happen and can you thin of anyone that might be worth pulling off some sort of deal like this for?

This kind of thing seemed like a real long shot when I first thought of it, and now rereading my post I think it is even more of a long shot. The one advantage to all of if would be that it would at some point give us another expiring max or near max deal. Therefore we could keep all out oiur big 3 and still have the opportunity to trade a big expiring with some young guys to bring is a another star.

Are you serious dude? Yeah, some team is going to trade us a maximum paid player (one that we'd actually want), then they are going to cut Ray Allen (and presumably the owners of the Celtics would be paying the $20million to buy him out), then Ray having just lost his Bird rights is going to sit out for 30 days and then come back to us, and then Ray will resign for $5 million less than his market value at the MLE next year.

I can't believe you not only thought that scenario up, but took the time to post it. You do realize how asinine of a suggestion this is, right? What do you think Kupchak would say if Ainge called him and said "Mitch, I thought of a way that you could just give us Kobe Bryant without getting anything back in return"

Even tho Kevin McHale gave us the gift of gifts in accepting 7 players from our 24 win team in exchange for maximum salaried Kevin Garnett, he still got a better deal than absolutely nothing. The key words being absolutely nothing, which is literally what you are suggesting teams take back in exchange for their franchise players. Incredible.

We would never do that trade because the contracts of Jackson and Ellis are terrible! And they are both bad chemistry guys. In the last 2 years all the stuff reported about these two players has been negative...

Would GS do that deal? Maybe. They are trying to sell the franchise so getting rid of 70 million is a great way to start...

In the NBA more trades are made for salary cap purposes than for the quality upgrade...

And it is absolutely possible that if we trade Ray that he is bought out. Other team would make the deal to clear cap space, so saving a few million extra by buying out Allen would make sense...

hahahaha Not that the op made me this disgusted, but this is how I feel whenever another notorious poster posts any of his trade ideas. feels good to get it out sometimes
