Horford: Pierce "owes" me money...

The NBA fined Pierce ($25,000) for allegedly flashing a gang sign in the direction of Atlanta's bench during the playoffs two seasons ago. If Horford didn't get his cut from the NBA, that's his fault and not that of Pierce. Take it up with the NBA, I say.

As Horford and teammate Marvin Williams chatted it up today on "Mayhem in the AM," the morning sports show on Atlanta's 790 The Zone, that incident came up in the conversation. Horford said that during the series, he and Pierce were at the free throw line and the Celtics veteran bet Horford, then a rookie, that the Hawks wouldn't win a game.

The wager, Horford said, was for $10,000.

Horford said he hasn't talked to Pierce since, "But I know he owes me money."

"Marvin was a witness. We were at the free throw line and he was telling me that they were going to sweep us and all this and, you know, we bet and I never got anything."

That series drove me nuts, Horford was one of my favorite players when he was in college, that series changed it all for me with his (Please Use More Appropriate Word) antics/celebrations over everything. Hell after that series I pretty much didnt care for anyone on that team ha.

Paul needs to pay up with interest.

I like Horford a lot but he is no Charles Oakley.

Seriously, Pierce should pay him in monopoly money to illustrate how much of a joke this is for Horford to go there. "...he owes me money." Get out of here with that.

And was Marvin Williams a witness to the closeline he put on Rondo. Yeah, why didn't you chat about that.

Pierce shouldn't pay 10,000. but he should definitely drop 50 on the hawks each and every time we play them this year.

pretty sure paying up would be gambling on a game and he would be suspended/banned

Pierce should pay him. I mean it isn't like he doesn't have the money. Doesn't winning Finals MVP come with some sort of cash bonus or something anyway?

That's what's baffling about this, why make your feelings on this public. What if this got back to Stern?

I don't believe that Pierce was entirely serious when he was boasting.

What's important to note here is that Horford revealed that he hasn't talked to Pierce since... So he didn't talk to Pierce after the playoffs series two seasons ago, or any time now. If you won a bet, you collect right there and then or soon after. Therefore, I feel as if nothing will come of this. Pierce pays him nothing.

What is it about Pierce that turns other players into babbling idiots? First, Starbury, now Horford.

I reported this the night it happen....some insider info and was blasted by many Celtics fans.
Go to the Hawks page to check the validity of my claim. See "Why Horford was so pumped tonight"

Good to see that my story was confirmed by Horford!

Pierce isn't exactly the silent type either in case you haven't noticed already.

But then he was never in debted to Horford in the first place. You could probably say Pierce ate his words, but there was no real or official wager in to begin with. Unless they actually sat down and came to terms about this so-called bet, it's no different from a guy saying "I bet my ass you can't..." just for the trash talk.

When you state a specific number of units though ("ten stacks"), I think most people take it as a legitimate bet.

Probably, but I don't take it as anything different from me saying "I bet you (insert amount of money) that you won't make that" to friends during a pick-up game. It sounds more like a "dare" or a taunt than anything else. Either way, it's not as if Horford plans on collecting the amount anytime soon, so that should quash speculations. It's likely he only brought it up to say Pierce ate his words in the end.

Kefa,
He may have HAD to say that because betting on the game you are playing may be illegal by NBA rules?
