Sweentney hasn't been waived yet

Our pre season games have ended and Sweentney hasn't been waived yet. We have 15 contracts on the roster, he is the 16th player and the only player without a contract. The coaches have said that they like him. Is Ainge trying to clear up roster space to keep him? This might turn out to be interesting if he still hasn't been cut on the next few days.

Yeah, could be interesting. Don't they have until 10/31 to make cuts? If they want to keep Sweetney, i would cut Bill Walker. I realize that's probably not a popular opinion, but he really hasn't shown much outside of a few dunks. At least Giddens can rebound and play defense, plus he's healthy. I don't think they will cut Tony's guaranteed contract.

I think Sweetney stays. I don't know who is going. I'm sure Ainge is working the phones right now.

mike sweetney vs. bill walker a dunker over a fatty no contest
sky walker wins because of williams, davis, sheed, scalabrine, all have roser spots. 6 bigs is enough.
sweetney has no d at all and will eat every players leftovers.
Dude sucks unless a trade is coming by the 31st he's waived.

Sorry, but I'd take a fatty that can play over a dunker any day. (See Gerald Green).

I think Sweetney will be gone (he doesn't have a contract, wouldn't he get cut instead of waived?). I expect this is another one of these situations like Miles, where if he can't be part of the extended rotation, he won't get signed. Even if a trade goes down that clears a spot, I don't think they'll sign him, not sure there is much risk he'll get immediately signed elsewhere, no need to commit him into a 15'th spot without monitoring progress of Hudson, health of TA and Scal. That roster spot might be needed for a different positional player down the road.

I do not think he will make the team either. Celtics are not going to cut a player and absorb that salary to sign Sweenty.

Oliver Miller played 9 seasons in the NBA. Is Green even on a roster right now?

I could see Sweets on the same stay-in-Boston-and-rehab-with-us plan that the C's thought they had Powe on. The goal would be fitness for a roster spot after the trading deadline.

He's just been cut.

I think Sweetney will be gone (he doesn't have a contract, wouldn't he get cut instead of waived?)

Yes he does. Well, he did. You can't played in training camp and preseason if you aren't signed.

Do you have a link to where it says he's been cut?

The C's have requested waivers on F Michael Sweetney. He averaged 3.6 points and 1.2 rebounds in 5 games. Roster stands at 15.

At least he gets this year's Estaban Batista trophy, won last year by Darius Miles.

I think Sheldon Williams made a statement with his play against New York and Cleveland. Sweetney is definitely a player and some team would benefit from his skills - when he loses the weight. If he doesn't lose the weight there is absolutely no point keeping him. Even if he doesnt' play a game, he doesn't last the season due to injury at his size.

Even though I recognize that Sweetney has loads more talent than Williams, Williams can actually help our team in the way the Leon Powe did .... although I would much rather have Powe.

I don't think we have seen the last of Mike Sweetney. If he works on his conditioning I could see the Celtics picking him up at mid season similiar to the Mikki Moore move last year. It's up to Sweetney to get into shape. We'll see, he has talent.

To be fair to Sweetney, he was playing overseas last season I believe not just laying on the couch, even if it looks like he was just laying on the couch.

I don't like Shelden much at all, his inability to score is going to cost me a remote or two this season, but he is better than Leon because he can actually play if we need him.

I was also looking forward to all of the fantastic puns and jokes we could come up with to describe what Sweets entering the game meant for the opponent. The Scal thing has just gotten to be so backwards baseball hat, red faced, blowhard Red Sox fan it turns me off.
