Big Man contracts

Post#1 » by SonicYouth34 » Fri Oct 23, 2009 2:22 am

So, since seeing all these big men (Bargs, LMA, Varejo) get these big contracts, it got me thinking, what does this mean for Perk? He only has 2 years left at like $8 million.

Bargs got 5yrs/$50 million
LMA got 5yrs/like 70 million
The flopper got 6yrs/$50 million
Bynum got 4yrs/$50+ million
Not to mention players like Darko who make $7 million a year.

Now I may be biased, but Perk is better over all player than Bargs and Varejo. LMA has a great offensive game but his defense stinks. Perk is better than Bynum, but Bynum hasn't had a legit full season. Plus, Perk was the starting center on a championship team and is the best man up defender in the NBA.

What does he deserve money wise? I don't have a answer or I wouldn't have made the thread.

Out of those, only Varejao got ridiculously overpaid. Yes, Perk fits our team better than any of them, but his value around the league is probably less than each of them minus Varejao. Darko also got his money based off his number two overall hype. After what Perk did last year, I'd bet he's in the market for $6-8M per year. He looks really good right now and could boost that value up to as much as $10M in my opinion. We all recognize him as a great center, but he doesn't put up the volume stats to really get league-wide notice to be overvalued.

Perk is only making $4 million.

good defensive centers were making $8 million to $12 million a couple of years ago.....thats assuming his offense does NOT pick up. [But with salary cap down and economy weak, who knows?]

I actually like Varejao, he is a very consistent player. I think Bargs is a stiff and Bynum is way overrated.

I think Varejao's money is exactly what Perk should get.

2 years left on his contract, and Perk shows continued improvement. He could be a double/double regular by the time his contract expires, I think $10 mil is going to be the right range.

I have a lot of respect for Perk. Other than height, he doesn't seem physically gifted, but he continues to work steadily on his game. And I don't fault him for taking an early and conservative contract, he set himself up for life when he signed that contract, knowing if he improved he could break the bank. I think he's going to do quite well on his next contract, and he'll deserve it IMO.
