In the wake of a thumb injury sustained during a recent altercation, Celtics forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis likely will be suspended by the team, owner Wyc Grousbeck confirmed to the Globe this morning.

Grousbeck initially reported that a suspension was "very likely" during an interview with Gene Lavanchy on the Fox 25 morning show.

"I've had enough of 'Big Baby,' so I'm going to start calling him Glen," Grousbeck told the Globe. "It certainly seems like there's going to be a suspension here."

Wow. Glad we didn't blow $10 mil on him a year, per Cedric "Brain Fart" Maxwell's idea.

Lol. It sounds from an outsider's perspective like all these things are connected:
* Twittering about not getting a deal
* Telling the reporter how he was upset he didn't get a deal for more minutes
* Getting in a fight (frustration from above points)
* Being a Big Baby ;)

Man, NBA teams really have a load to handle. They pay these young guys so much money. Of course they're going to go out and do crazy/dumb stuff.

Depending on the details, suspension sounds like the appropriate move. Wyc did sound mad, mad in a I'm-going-to-take-down-your-nameplate-with-a-hammer kind of way. Suspension allows the Cs to get back some money, and also teaches Baby a lesson.

Baby needs to use his recovery time to take a look in the mirror and work on his maturity, even if this was a case of self-defense. Use the maturity work to eat well and keep the weight off, and work on his lefty hook when he's not doing that. A guy, if he uses his time well, can grow a lot when recovering from injury. That's HIS opportunity in this mess.

Hopefully, it is only 6-8 weeks. If it's a bad thumb fracture, involving major surgery, that would not be a huge set back, both the Cs and Baby's development.

has the complete story come out yet? I heard he hurt his hand in a fight with a "buddy" . What kind of a friend breaks your hand? There has to be more to this story than what's been reported. Doc also knew more than he let on but that's the celtic way these days--- CONE OF SILENCE

Wyc needs to stop airing out the team's dirty laundry and keep it internal. His big mouth made it tougher for Ainge to trade Telfair last year. Expressing his displeasure with Davis publicly isn't going to help his trade value much if Ainge decides to move him later on.

Big Friggin Idiot IMO. When he said that he was doing mixed martial arts training this summer I thought, not a good idea, he's wither gonna hurt someone or vice versa.

We'll miss baby on Shaq all year long and he was an option on that 2nd squad.

Damn.

Fool.

Chris Sheridan is saying Glenn is having surgery. I'd feel alot better about this if we had another big to go with Sheed, and the Landlord on the bench.... especially with Scal out for a bit. Even a 3/4 like Nocioni,or gasp... Posey.

My guess is that horseplay got, as it were, out of hand. As to whether it was entirely good-natured or not I have no opinion.

Remember, this is the guy who famously wrestled with Shaq while he was still a high school student.

I know that Baby was supposedly defending himself but after Wyc said Baby is going to be suspended I think there is more to the story we do not know about. Assuming we have the latest update Baby should be back around the end of December. It is probably going to take him a few weeks to be back in game shape. We are talking around the middle of January before he is back in game shape.

Hopefully this is the start of the Robert Swift era.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

Yeah, I await anxiously with everyone else as to what exactly transpired...

Chris Sheridan tweeting today: http://twitter.com/csheridanespn

He says Glen is having surgery to determine the extent of the injury. Who's ever heard of that? Don't X-rays or MRIs usually determine the extent of an injury?

To me, part of Wyc's anger has to be because this they think this is a severe injury, something worse than 8 weeks of recovery. I really hope it's only 8 weeks.

This is bad news the way I see it. But I'm not sure why at the same time, I'm glad this happened in order to teach the word maturity to Glen Davis.

I also suspect that horseplay was involved. Who starts fist fighting with their friend from Louisana that just came up to visit? Oh hey....haven't seen you in a long time since our days at LSU...here's a punch to your face????????

People gave me $hit because I called big baby a big p*ssy on another thread. How i question his immaturity and how he should keep his mouth quiet about things. Well it seems like big baby is indeed a very immature little kid.

Is it bad to see that two of the better younger players on this team are the ones that have been causing up a stir? The off season started with Rondo and ended with Davis.

Gary Washburn just revealed in his chat that Glen is expected to miss 3-4 months with his broken thumb, putting him out till around the all-star break. Bad news!

You deserved it too, even though you turned about to be incredibly prescient on this matter.

There's no need in this day and age to call someone a big p*ssy for having normal human emotions. For a guy who gains his edge via his emotions, it's not uncommon to have problems controlling those emotion from time to time. KG, another emotional player, punched out 2 teammates when he was younger. Baby just combined poor decision making with bad luck and now he's gone for 3-4 months. Like I said before, this mess can turn out overall to be a positive if Glen takes the time to take stock of his life and try to come out on the other side a more mature person; one less subject to the ebb-and-flow of his emotions.
