According to an NBA source, Celtics forward Glen "Big Baby" Davis underwent successful surgery on his right hand on Tuesday, and will now be out for six to eight weeks. Davis reportedly suffered the injury in a fight with a former college teammate. Davis re-signed with the Celtics this offseason on a two-year, $5 million deal.

That's a relief. Thank goodness you're still allowed to run on a treadmill with a cast on your hand. If it was up to me, I'd have Baby running up and down the sidelines during scrimmages to simulate playing in a game. Last thing we need is for this kid to take a step back with his weight issues.

Thank God...seriously, I had visions of 3-4 months and a 350-lb Big Baby 'playing' his way into shape after the All-Star break. This is much more manageable. Me hopes Glen learned his lesson...me hopes we learn what exactly transpired..

Wyc said the team will set down with Glen and work out what happened and have a presser and tell the public....

Thanks, Kefa.

It was my speculation that Wyc was so angry because he thought Baby might be out for half the year. Now that it's only 6-8 weeks, it looks like Wyc has mellowed considerably in the anger department, if these last comments quoted above are any indication.

I"m sure Baby and the Cs will work something out and put a good spin on things.

Since he got hurt in a fight will he get paid for the time he misses? I hope not.

Glen will be asked to "chip in" for the damage done. He won't be suspended......he will be fined. They probably want to keep an eye on him......so probably just fined.

Main question is, how good is he using his fork with his left hand?

Grousbeck talks about Davis and Rondo
By WEEI

Celtics co-owner Wyc Grousbeck just finished up an appearance on “The Big Show,” and touched on a couple of topics, namely Glen Davis and Rajon Rondo:

Grousbeck confirmed Davis suffered a broken thumb in a recent altercation. Though he did not give a specific timetable for the forward’s return, he did suggest that such injuries “are usually not season-threatening. … It’s a broken thumb. I don’t think it’s going to be that long.”

Grousbeck did say that the team expected to “suspend or fine” Davis. Noting that the 23-year-old will be out for some time, Grousbeck suggested that the Celtics planned to sit down with the player and determine an appropriate punishment. “I think we’re going to ask him to chip in,” said Grousbeck.

On why they wouldn’t reveal what happened: “I can’t talk to him. He’s post-operative and I’m getting on a plane. It’s just the way it is.”

Has Danny Ainge or Doc Rivers talked with Davis? “Where we stand is we haven’t resolved exactly what happened. Meanwhile, he’s had surgery, and we don’t know how that went — or I don’t know precisely how that went. We don’t have a prognosis for recovery yet from the surgery. My guess is its not going to be as bad as we feared, we all feared. And we’ve seen some printed reports or press reports that it could be a long time. I’d be surprised. It’s a broken thumb. I don’t think it’s going to be that long.”

Grousbeck said they were going to wake up Wednesday and “make a plan with [Davis] and his representatives, and we’ll let you guys know at that point about it, and we’ll probably reveal maybe some more details about it, or maybe not. I’m not trying to be difficult.

“But my understanding, broadly speaking, is that the reports are pretty much accurate. There was some sort of altercation, and it was with somebody he knew, and I think it went bad. And you’re not supposed to do that stuff when you’re a professional basketball player.”

Grousbeck also touched on reports that the Celtics were talking with point guard Rajon Rondo about a new contract and whether it could get resolved by the end of the week.

“I’m not going to comment on numbers. I don’t think we’ve ever really commented on contractual discussions. I don’t think it actually helps the process much to be commenting midstream. It’s sort of like going at halftime of a game — you still don’t know how the game is going to end up. So i really don’t want to get into Rajon’s discussions at this point.”

Are discussions going to continue before Halloween? “Well, there’s a fair amount of time between then and now. There’s going to be a lot going on there. Whether or not anything happens on this front, we’re going to have to wait and see.”

8 weeks of the NBA season is nearly half the season. I'm hoping it's closer to 6 weeks.

Do the math: 2 months from now, we'll have played 26 games. That's a little over 1/4 of the season, as opposed to 3-4 months, which would be more than half the season.

Great reporting by WEEI so far. Glad to see that it's not being dominated by Red Sox talk.

looks like the 3 - 4 month talk might have been just speculation.

I just want to know where you get those naked women video avatars.

Anyway, 6-8 weeks = how many games? To be honest, Baby doesnt strikeme as a guy who wil cause you guys to lose any games. Maybe a couple, maybe but that would only come if someone more significant got hurt.
