JR needs to relax

I think the kid has talent and can help us but so far he looks scared out there. I think he's trying so hard not to make a mistake that he's not playing naturally. Last night he got in and promptly fell on his face and turned the ball over. then he grabs a nice rebound only to have it stripped. He took a 3 pointer in the charlotte game that was an airball... he just looks lost. He needs to have something positive happen for him pretty soon or I'm afraid that his time on this team will be short

He just doesn`t understand the game. He is like Gerald Green. Not an NBA player, IMO...

Doc needs to find a way to showcase him somehow hoping to drum up SOME kind of trade value in Giddens. I'm not condemning him in his 2nd season, but, unless Ainge is uneasy about retaining Daniels beyond this season, I don't think there is an intermediate term slot for him to receive significant playing time. An ideal scenario, to me, would be to package Giddens with TA/Scal in a deal to land Shane Battier. But Giddens is going to have to show something before the deadline.

well I dont think we can get Battier. I believe he was just named the Rockets captian. JR's best value to the team sad to say is probally as an expiring contract. I think a Scal/TA/JR for Nocioni deal would be far more likely.

Haven't actually seen the games, but it's nice to note that Hudson has quietly got to play almost a complete quarter for two out of three games so far. If they continue with these blowouts he'll be a seasoned player by the time they could consider sending him to Portland. After a long haul, the kid may have finally lucked out!

Tommy has been saying he is just very eager. I think he just needs time to work through things. Hopefully we will continue to blow games open and he can get that time. I think you just have to make a certain number of mistakes before you can not make them on an NBA level. I guess my point is that what we are seeing is natural and doesn't in and of itself mean he is not an NBA talent.

JR understood the game pretty well when he was in college. he's not gerald, a guy who only ever dunked over 5-3 guys before coming to the NBA.
i agree he is really pressing right now when he gets the ball. the good part is, in other aspects like D and rebounding he's just playing, and doing pretty well.

^Agreed. Gerald Green isn't the best comparison because Green was a high school senior when he entered the league and JR was a four year college grad. Giddens still looks lost out there but he has some skills that Green does not. Maybe sending JR back to the D League for a few weeks would get the message across that he either steps it up or will be traded for scraps.

He's just nervous. He doesn't know if he's gonna get his option picked up or if he's gonna get some playing time.

Yeah I say d- league him but give him one more blow out game to settle his ass down, I'd much rather have in garbage time hudson, house, daniels, williams, wallace for now so that wallace and daniels stats go up, it seems eddie house is way ready no matter what time it is plus contract year(i'm way ok with him retiring here by the way). And when scal walker and baby are back I don't see him getting any pt at all. I'm so freaking pumped that we are stacked on the bench, The fact that even with giddens in were not losing the lead is far impressive, but he is our weakest link right now... Relax is right...

How could one not to expect JR to display perfect composure out there when he's had the benefit of playing an entire 20 minutes of pro ball? (SARCASM

)
Patience people. Tommy knows talent when he sees it.

I disagree. If we can keep blowing teams out, this is the perfect place for him to work through his nervousness and hopefully further develop. If we send him to the D league he will dominate it, we have already seen that. His problem is NBA pressure and blowouts give him to opportunity to play on the big stage with no real negative ramifications to the team if he turns the ball over a bunch.
Also, our deep bench is pretty thin right now. Having him in there means House or MD can get some rest. Who do you want Sheed and MDs stats to go up by playing in garbage time? Its meaningless. Stats are great years after the fact to be able to verify and clarify what we forget but in the present they are meaningless.

I concede that but the stats thing was a lil selfish of me I was wanting a 6th man award from 1 of the 2.
And I don't like the line up of hudson, giddens, house, daniels and williams but I guess when scal gets back we'd take out house or daniels so then it would work. I really can't say he'd pan out but your right he'd just dominate in d league. The tandem of hudson and giddens doesn't sound good but giving that its a blowout it couldn't hurt to keep trying..

I agree.
When he gets the ball near the hoop he often trys to score to quickly and ends up rushing. I think part of that is coaching. These guys are coached that they need to finish quickly around the rim. So the defense doesn't have time to recover.
I realize the NBDL isn't the NBA. But, When I watched him on the flash, He definitely showed me he can score. He has a jumper and a decent dribble drive game. I will admit that his dribble drive game is obviously inflated due to talent level in the NBDL. But, I believe he could be an adequate set shooter as a role player in the NBA. To those who would point to his lack of NBA production. The guy has played a total of 20 freaking minutes and only taken 4 Shots in HIS ENTIRE NBA Career.
And to those who say that if he didn't suck he would be playing. Have you looked at the roster of your Boston Celtics lately? This is a 60-65+ win team challenging for an NBA championship. With 9-10 PROVEN NBA players on the team. Sheed and Marquise Daniels could start on a good amount of teams. It's not like he is rotting on the end of a lottery team's bench.
I also agree with Particleman that Giddens has shown he can defend and rebound in his very limited NBA experience. The biggest reason why most of the Elite NBDL player fail in the NBA is because they have certain fatal flaws that will be greatly exposed at the NBA level. For example undersized, not a good enough athlete, a terrible defender among other things. But, I don't see that with Giddens. I just see all the tools to be a rotational player in the NBA. He is a good athlete, he can defend , and he can rebound. Plus, I think he could be a solid spot up shooter at the very least if given an opportunity.
If, We don't pick up Giddens option it will be for Financial/Roster reasons. We are a team who is really concerned with luxury tax implications and Giddens won't have a realistic chance at getting into the rotation unless we have an injury. I could see the owners wanting to save 2.4 million total on a player who isn't likely to contribute to your team. I will be interested to see how it shakes out.
