Perkins said Rondo said this about Chris Paul

What's the deal with Rondo and Paul? And it isn't just about Paul, Rondo seems to want to be the best point guard in the league. But I wouldn't resort to name-dropping or using an elite player to motivate me. If I'm that good, then I already know it. I know it inside.
I don't believe Rondo has a personal beef against him. But I do wonder if Rondo views other starting point guards as a particular rival. It's like... Okay, Paul is the best... Then I'm going to go all or nothing whenever our teams meet. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with having that kind of mentality. Just don't let it drive you to where you play down to your opponent if it isn't a marque match-up. I hope Rondo doesn't possess an inferiority complex. No, not him.
The Celtics center told the media that, according to Rondo, the only reason Chris Paul has so many assists is that “the ball is in his hands all the time.”
http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/bask ... ving_mood/This is a good point...
Now, my first reaction is that…well…so would Rondo. But that’s his point. In the Celtic’s offense, the ball often moves through a number of other hands on the way to a potential assist. The assist leaders like Steve Nash, Chris Paul, Deron Williams, and Jason Kidd do seem to have the ball more and the offense runs through them more than other players on the team.

Maybe he does have personal beef with Paul, it's not like any of us know what is said or goes on personally between any of the players. It is only one line though, through a third party. Rondo has always gotten up for match-ups against "the elite" in the past, I think this year he's trying to make a statement that he's right there with them.
Just as long as he makes that statement on the court, it's all good. This quote is just being sensationalized. People are over on the GB talking about Rondo like he slapped their children and ravaged their women, pretty entertaining stuff.

Take Paul and Rondo out of the equation and I think as a general rule I think its an important distinction and is why I don't love the assist statistic as it can be misleading. I wish there was some stat that measured a good shot created for teammate/self to time possessing the ball in the 24 shot clock ratio. I suspect Paul is still superior in this respect, but I think it would speak unfavorably of some guys with high assist ratios.

I agree. Paul dribbles the ball for 22 seconds before making a pass or shoots it.

Why is it considered a bad thing when what Rondo is saying is true? Rondo brings the ball up, and then passes it. CP3 brings the ball up, and dribbles and dribbles and either shots or passes it to someone for a shot. But it's not all Paul's fault. That's their offense. Rondo's averaging a lot of assts this year for an offense that's not run like Nash's Suns or Paul's Hornets. Those two guys dribble and do everything. Rondo doesn't.

Why does Perk have to tell the media what Rondo told him?

I don't find enjoyment from knuckle-dragging drama queens with a group mean IQ of 70, sorry. The general board of RealGM is a melting pot of ignorance and sophomoric bunk.
And I'm being generous.

While I do agree about the general IQ and tone of the GB, it's just that stupidity that amuses me. Message boards in general have desensitized me to much of the general idiocy that used to piss me off when I began posting many years ago, although I suppose that's not a good thing.

Well, perhaps I was wrong... There's something personal going on between Rondo and Paul. But Rondo needs to take the higher road on this one. Because most people will side with Paul. I mean Rondo still hasn't made one All-Star team. But that's besides the point. Rondo should zone Paul out like he would T. Parker or anyone else who he could have a beef with.

The counter to Rondo's argument about C. Paul is that Rondo takes less shots so he has more opportunities for assists and that secondly Rondo has far superior shooters to work with.. It's kinda immature to cry about this kind of thing though but at least it gets Rondo up for games.
In a nutshell, C. Paul can inflate his assist numbers by waiting till the clock runs down and throwing the ball to someone. Rondo can inflate his assist numbers by passing up a wide open shot and throwing the ball to someone else..
The assist stat is problematic to play too - and when any player does that its bad for the team. It actually can happen quite a bit and people just think said player is being "unselfish." that being said Rondo IMHO is guilty of this. He does pass up open shots but because he can't shoot well.

I think the problem with that approach is that it seems like Rondo has more beef with him than the other way around. It will be fun to see what unfolds when they meet again, hopefully nothing leading to a suspension.

Like I brought up before, let's hope that Rondo doesn't possess an inferiority complex. If so, that's bad for Boston.

Lets hope Rondo can score more than 10 point a game this season lol however...Look jabbing someone is all good and he got Paul to force a 1 on 1 stat show down all the while Rondo played team ball and that's exactly what I'd want to happen force Paul to do it all and our team wins.
I think he knows what he is doing if your beat physically beat them mentally which he did tonight.

Well, something is definitely there. I don't think it's an inferiority complex so much as a chip on his shoulder that he believes he's as good as anybody he's playing against. In that regard, it's a good thing because he stays motivated to constantly be at his best.
Doc talked about it to the press the other night. Something to the effect that last year, Rajon really got up for those certain games against marquee point guards, but this year his goal is to bring that fire every night regardless of the opponent. It's still too early to tell how that'll work out but looks good through 4 games.

Would love to see Rondo be top 3 or lead the NBA in APG.

Chris Paul is a future hall of famer. Rondo might beat out Jameer Nelson or Mo Williams for an all star appearance some day.

LOL@ Rondo. One could say the only reason Rondo averages anywhere close to Paul's assists is because he plays in a team with 3 future HOF guys. If Rondo and Paul switched teams Boston would probably not lose a single playoff game while New Orleans would probably miss the playoffs entirely.

I concur. I do believe he plays with a chip... I mean Rondo gets slighted by some of his peers and by national fans.
I think it's hypocritical by national fans to constantly bring up who Rondo's starting teammates are. That's getting really old, it's a cliche. People have nothing better to do with themselves than to become jealous because their teams are irrelevant.
Rondo has to prove himself game after game. It's no wonder he can get feisty at times. He shouldn't let it bother him, look at Pierce. He has been one of the most underrated players at his position from day one. It's just unpopular to give credit to players that actually deserve credit as being among the best at their positions.
I hope he does stay motivated now that he has agreed to a contract extension. Don't become distracted by things out of your control, I say.
"Rondo is a lucky guy, to play with guys like Pierce, [Ray] Allen and [Kevin] Garnett," Paul, who scored 22 points with eight assists, said with a sly smile.
Asked if that was meant as a slight toward Rondo, the two-time All-Star said, "No, no. He is a great point guard and he's a champion. It's my hope to achieve that."

It's not just the media who bring up his starting teammates - it's guys like Tony Parker who know the NBA pretty well. The perception is Rondo is a spoiled punk who rides the coattails of his teammates. He doesn't have the respect around the league - and yet he talks smack. This is why he is unpopular. He is not respected, IMHO.
