Glen "Big Baby" Davis has no regrets about choosing basketball over football. That's because he's achieved success and a championship with the Boston Celtics -- and also because he doesn't believe his days on the football field are over.

Davis, the Celtics' 6-foot-9, 290-pound forward, said he eventually wants to play in the NFL.

When I become an All-Star in the NBA, when I become a great player in the NBA, then I'll try football. One of my dreams has always been to play football.

"I will try it," said Davis, who's on the injured list for six weeks with a broken right thumb sustained in a fight. "When I become an All-Star in the NBA, when I become a great player in the NBA, then I'll try football. One of my dreams has always been to play football."

Davis was a terrific two-way football player at University Laboratory High School in Baton Rouge, La., starring at defensive end, defensive tackle and tailback. But he chose to hang up his cleats and accept a basketball scholarship to LSU, where he became an All-American.

"I definitely could have made it to the NFL," Davis said.

He doesn't have a specific position in mind in the NFL.

"It don't matter," he said. "I just want to play."

Davis is now in his third season with the Celtics. He averaged just 7 points and 4 rebounds per game as a reserve last season, but while replacing Kevin Garnett as a starter in the playoffs, Davis pushed his averages to 15.8 points and 5.6 rebounds per game.

In August, Davis signed a two-year, $6 million contract with the Celtics. He doesn't foresee jumping to the NFL at the end of this contract because he doesn't think he'll reach his NBA goals by then.

"No, we've got too many other great players in front of me -- KG and Rasheed Wallace -- for that to happen," he said.

Davis found himself in hot water with the Celtics after breaking his thumb in an early-morning fight with a longtime friend just two days before the start of the regular season. He apologized to his teammates and was fined for the indiscretion, but was not suspended.

I don't think its quite at the level of delusion. He certainly has the body type to dominate in the NFL - obviously his skills would be behind. As for making the all-star team - its not impossible for him. I don't think it will happen with the Celtics but if he keeps himself in shape he might be able to do some damage.

I put him at the level of extremely optomistic. Its delusional for me to think I could play in the NFL..not Glen Davis.

Interesting. I'm guessing Baby would be the first professional 2-sport athlete @ football and bball. If he did this it would be really impressive because the skill sets are so different. The typical 2-sport athlete plays football and baseball (Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders). Charlie Ward is probably the closest comparison when he played FSU football before being drafted by the Knicks. Baby did sound a little cocky with the "when I'm an all-star" comment but he also pointed to KG and Rasheed being much better players than him so maybe it was taken out of context. To say the least, he's been doing some thinking.

If Al Jefferson hasn't made an all-star team yet, things aren't looking up for Glen. I'd put money on Perk as an AS reserve before Davis does it.

As far as football, I don't see why not assuming he's got the skills. He's certainly got the beef.

Baby will never be an all-star even if he changes teams and starts.

Just one more reason why I would rather have kept Leon Powe over this baby.

I think Glen's delusional that he's ever going to be "an All-Star, a great player" in his own words, in the NBA...THAT, my friends, is nuts.

They aren't that different and its hardly unheard of..

Randy Moss was an excellent HS basketball player who many feel could have gone pro. Allen Iverson was a fantastic HS QB most people feel he was a much better HS QB then he was basketball player. Marcus Banks was a all-state linebacker and so on..

Tony Gonzalez just recently was in the Miami Heat camp - and did pretty well.

The problem of course is that the seasons cross over. So you have to DROP basketball or football to do it. Thus the guys I have mentioned cannot.. Baseball OTOH is a summer game and basketball/football are winter games thus the cross over isn't such a problem. If football was played in the summer alot of guys would have done what BBD is doing already. Don't be fooled. The guy is a good athlete he isn't that special.

Saban really wanted him on the LSU team. He is a a prototype left tackle. Great footwork. Great size. His ceiling was much higher in football than in basketball.

Yeah I do think he is more a prototype LT then a basketball player. But who wants to get hit?

LOLLLLL The first hit he takes is going to make him think twice about picking up a football. Ya I can see him and Sasha Vujacic both on the same team. Him the quarter back and Sasha's the wide reciever.

Maybe if he ever eats his way out of the NBA he will eat his way into the NFL.

Exactly. A fat guy with some height can do well in the NFL. A fat guy who is short really can't. Glen is both...

Big Baby could've been an all star offensive tackle in the NFL.

And yea, we want a guy to aspire to be a bench player!!! Screw having dreams guys.

It's not that he has dreams, it's that he seriously thinks he's gonna be a star in the league. He's never gonna be anything more than a serviceable 7th or 8th man off the bench, which is fine, he's good at it. But "once" he becomes an "All-Star" and a "Great Player" in the NBA, he's off to conquer the NFL? Those are things someone with the cachet like LeBron could say and get away with, not BIG **** BABY!
