God DAMN, this Delonte stuff bums me out

Post#1 » by Scalamental » Fri Nov 13, 2009 8:20 pm

This ain't the first time this topic has come up, but damn, it's tough seeing West struggling like he is. Who in the NBA reaches out to this kid?

Did he ever showed any signs of this when he was with us? It's surprising to see him like this. I wish all the best to him.

West makes Vin Baker look sane.
Reggie stood out like a sore thumb no tattoos no agenda no chirping nothing Just a guy who could score at will He played college ball at Northeastern he replaced Larry as Celtics captain he belonged to Boston.
And I still miss him. Even now.

Allah is just Arabic for "god" and since the poster speaks English why would he use "Allah"? Also, he didn't say "be damned".

I do remember a story about him getting into a domestic squabble with his gf. The celtics just seem very good at keeping stuff under wraps. We didn't hear about some of Ricky Davis's faux pas until after he left.

I wish someone like Bill Walton would invite Delonte to whatever mountain he's hiding in for spiritual rejuvenation/rocky 4 montage to get him back on his feet.

He has the usual "Poor boy who made good because he was obsessive about hoops" problems, plus a serious actual mental illness. Bad combination.

He has to accept full clinical treatment for the mental illness, or he'll have a whole lot of problems. And by the way, none of us knows whether that treatment is apt to take away his basketball edge.

Fencer

I am very concerned about Delonte's mental health issues. He is definitely a potential danger to himself and/or others if he is not properly treated. I have done many endocrinology consults on psych inpatients with manic-depressive disease on many occasions, e.g. lithium (for the manic phase) can cause a wide range of thyroid diseases, depressed people are more prone to obesity and the complications thereof such as a higher risk of diabetes mellitues, coinicidental endocrine problems, etc. I have personally seen and heard of many bad outcomes if they are not properly medicated by good psychiatrists and/or do not take their meds as directed. I have a feeling that Delonte is not compliant with his meds.

Caveat: I am an endocrinologist, and certainly do not claim psychiatric exoertise. But I am very concerned about what I am reading about him.

God bless this kid. I wish him well.

ex,

Pretty spot on about the meds. It takes us the proverbial trip to the moon (or two) before we figure out why the few positives of hypomania are far outweighed by all the other horrors of the illness. I've been through and watched countless others make the same stupid mistake of thinking they are stronger than the illness and will just get by without treating it properly. 100 times out of 100, you're going to pay by going that route.

Just based on where he's been as recently as this summer and where he's at right now, Delonte would probably be better off being out indefinitely, staying away from the media and the limelight and getting himself properly medicated and back on track. It doesn't happen overnight either. It took me the better part of two years to find the right combinations of meds that didn't have awful side effects.

ps - I'm bipolar, in case nobody picked up on that. :eyebrows: I have no problem answering any questions on the topic that any of you might have. I've been living with it for the better part of the past 12 years (mostly successfully), so I should be able to cover just about anything.

I'm not particularly concerned. D's got a lifelong battle, he knows that, and it takes precedence over basketball right now and it's quite understandable if he has to walk away from the game for this season. He's still young enough to sit out the season, get it together, and regroup and continue his career. I'm assuming he will. He just needs to re-order his life, set up a good support system, and practice living his life on medication.

As a C fan I'm not bummed in the least. Never cheer for any injury, but when they happen to potential playoff opponents, I can't say I feel any pain over it.

Fencer - Yes. We are on the same page.

Dunk - I am very happy that you have it under control. Do you want some insights into lithium-induced thyroid disease. You can find me at atorvastat@aol.com if you want to IM chat.

I think he showed signs with us. He seemed to pout coming off the bench and was pretty moody and weird in interviews. He can be a decent players at times but clearly he is a problem. Danny made the right call. Rondo is moody and stubborn but at least he is intelligent.
