Rebounding Issues

This is not a panic thread or anything, just something that I was thinking about while watching the Atlanta game. Obviously, they dominated us on the glass. Many of there offensive boards came from the simple fact that they outhustled and outworked us. However, I was wondering what everyone thought about how the KG knee injury might be affecting our rebounding. I think KG has played great so far but I think he has lost a little bit of his leaping ability, which is expected. Perk is not a high riser and relies mostly on positioning to grab boards. KG usually has the ability to rise above everyone else and grab the boards, but this clearly wasnt the case against Atlanta who has many athletes and leapers. Do you guys think this will be an issue or did we just have a tough night on the glass?

The old KG isn't coming back that's for sure. He missed so many alley oops. Even @ 100% he's never going to be the same. On the brightside, the most important aspect to his game is his defensive leadership and presence. He was primarily a jump shooter anyways so that hasn't changed.
Back to the topic. We seem lazy on some nights and as a result our rebounding suffers. Don't know if it's partly due to old age, too many back-to-backs, or they just play down to their opponents.

With a healthy KG we have a solid rebounding group. Perk, Sheed, Williams, KG are al solid rebounding big men. Rondo and Pierce are also above average for their position.
So I guess we just need to focus on it more because rebounding is more about hustle, which ATL showed tonight.

KG just can`t get up anymore. A year ago he would finish this game with 10+ boards, yesterday everybody out jumped him...Hopefully, in a few months he will get some of the lift back...

Rebounding was awful. We got outboarded 47-29 at home. Enough said. Can't wait for BBD to come back. BBD will play down low more and his rebounding will go up. He is a shape eater and another offensive weapon, which Shelden Williams isn't.

Our problem was on the defensive glass where Baby is a poor rebounder. Offensive rebounding is his thing.
The main problems were
1. Boxing out. They just didn't do it.
2. Kevin had zero lift. I don't even want to see him on the court against the Pacers. The same goes with Paul. I'd rather lose that game too, than have either one of them get hurt. Kevin looks like he's playing with a ball and chain, and Paul was seriously hurting.... so, knowing, Doc, we can pencil them in for major minutes tonight.

We are dead last in rebounding:
http://www.nba.com/statistics/sortable_ ... nf=1&prd=1Were 20th in differential with what sonicYouth34 said is right, we need to hustle more for the most part there stats are lower in the rebounding dept. perk is 2 down from last year, rondo is down 1, sheldon is up 3, pierce is down 1, kg is down 1, rasheed is down 3, daniels down 2, I expected kg to be down but not everybody, this will even out with more hustle.

This is absolutely a problem for this team. Last night was pathetic. Giving up 16 offensive rebounds, let alone at home, is unacceptable. I wasn't pleased with our effort on that end of the court all night. They had 11 more shot attempts than we did. (Going 1-15 from 3 certainly didn't help either)

With such a small sample size and getting absolutely torn up on rebounding last night, we'd be +1 and sitting with Cleveland if you just took out that game.
It's bothered me a bit too, but it really just looks like a lack of effort. That's it. We have nothing to prove in the regular season unlike teams like the Hawks who know they'll have no chance at the championship, so obviously we aren't going to put the same amount of effort in.

I agree that our lack of defensive rebounding is inexcusable and just a lack of effort, but I think we have a serious issue with our ability to get offensive rebounds.
KG and Sheed should never play together. At this point in their careers they are both jump shooting big men. This means that no one is on the offensive glass for us. They are both spreading the floor for people to drive, but those people are all waiting around the perimeter for the ball and if they don't get it then they're in no position to rebound.
At least until Baby is back I'd like to see either Perk or Sheldon on the floor with Wallace or Garnett, because they play down on the block and at least give us a chance for rebound. It's not that I don't think KG or Sheed can rebound, its just that they are playing around the perimeter and are in terrible position when a shot goes up.
On paper we have a great rebounding team with Perk, KG, Sheed, Pierce, Rondo, Sheldon, etc. but something just isn't clicking and I think it's all the jumpers we take. It'd be nice if either KG or Sheed were more of an Al Jefferson type back to the basket player who can grab rebounds and score in the post, because I think we are sorely going to need that in the playoffs.

This has been my only real concern this season as well, we're getting beat on the boards. I fully expect it to change though, we have the personnel and the experience to win the battle on the boards, I am willing to bet it's going to be a focus in practice.

Finally, a real topic on this board.
This is defentily an issue. KG looked like he has lost all athletiscism in half of the games played this year [last night against ALT might of been his worst] so he isn't going to pick up the slack.
Couple that with our players being 3 ball offense happy, KG's knee hurting any post game, and Sheed being a 3 point Center. We're taking distance shots, getting out hustled because our guys are 30+ not >20, and this is going to be a re-occuring problem for our team.
We're a rough it up defense team that is a jumpshot offense that is too old to out hustle the other team.
We're half-soft like the Lakers were back in 2008.
