Negativity

This year's version of the Boston Celtics are 13-4 after 17 games this season. They are 2nd in the East 1/2 game behind Orlando and are 1 game behind Phoenix for the best record in the NBA. Yet the latest topics in this forum are:

Why the captain passing?
Lakers will eat us alive.
back up point.
Celtics Reb margin - 3rd to 2nd to 18th in the NBA.
Next 3 Road Games as Measuring Stick.
Why are teams shooting so well against us?

You would think the Celtics are 4-13 or 8-9. Do people forget the years before KG? I'm just saying appreciate the team that is in front of us. They are on pace for a 63-19 season and are a leading contender for the title. All of this and they haven't even hit their stride yet. Enjoy! :D

I thought the celtics played better in their last couple of games. they went inside much more.

But they don't look like a championship caliber team to me this season, yet.

I'm trying to understand what has changed with this team vs last year and 2 years ago.

What I"ve found so far:

Rebounding margin has fallen dramatically as has 3 pt shooting percentage margin.

KG and Pierce are not as effective as 2 years ago at least in adjusted plus minus.

Ray's 3 point shooting has fallen off a cliff.

The celtics are not nearly as effective in defending the 3 point shot as 2 years ago.

ubuntu baby at least my posts have been happy thoughts, lol
although I will state we've been spoiled as of late, so that might have something to with it.
Or it may be we have a passionate board i've read other teams stuff and were by far a passion and smart bunch with various moods when we play bad I think that shows the dad complex we always want our sons to do better.

I hate the implication that being a pollyanna somehow makes you a better fan.

I love that we are back in the elite these days, but I'm also greedy in that I want to see more victory parades.

This is not looking like a championship-caliber team to me, but that could probably be addressed.

Didn't you get suspended and vow to leave these boards as recently as a few days ago?

He who angers you conquers you.

Anger ventilated often hurries toward forgiveness; and concealed often hardens into revenge.

Get mad, then get over it.

Resentment is like taking poison and waiting for the other person to die.

If you kick a stone in anger, you'll hurt your own foot.

Anger dwells only in the bosom of fools.

Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.

Speak when you are angry and you will make the best speech you will ever regret.

The best remedy for a short temper is a long walk.

Yeah, I know were your coming from but the problem your going to run into, on this board at least, is that you are going to associate yourself with a couple of crazy ass prophets of doom who were still predicting we would lose to the Lakers in the 4th quarter of game 6.

Intelligently going after the teams flaws is good stuff the board will feed on but going off with the "Lakers are gonna eat us alve" stuff is pretty Joe Biscuit and isn't going to create much of a discussion at all. To be honest saw the title and didn't even open it and imagine most that did just did it to bark at you.

Sully is dead on. If that thread was a little less reactionarily titled and had some actual reasons to start it off it might have got some better responses. The Lakers are a very good team this year, as are we. I'd have to give them the edge early in the year as well, but no one is going to "eat each other alive", that's just Biscuit speak.

Celtic fans Celtic fans we are fine. We are an elite team and yes we need to improve in many areas, but why bicker about our shortcomings and attack each other. I am so glad that we expect perfection. I am so glad that we no longer see making the 7th or 8th spot as the goal. We are so good and we want to dominate every team, not going to happen. I don't care to point out every time we lose what could make us a better team. we all have valid ideas which could help this team, but remember we have a squad that is probably just as hard on themselves as all the criticism we could dole out.

We will not stand pat come february, this is my feeling. Right now we can hypothesize and criticize all we want but let's be grateful that we are in the position we are in. We are the East coast San Antonio. Players/ veterans want to come hear. Let us remember that we signed Sheed and didn't trade for him so we lost nothing. Daniels same thing. There will be someone coming here at the deadline come trade or release/signing, mark my words. To quote the big Lebowski: Nothing is F***ed here!

Suggestions I love but I agree there is more negativity on this board than i feel is merited. Patience is warranted and let's ease up on all the spiteful insulting attack reposts.

But these are just my sentiments... 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

Sully, I really don't know about any of that. I graduated high school a long time ago, and don't get into any of that personal stuff or join message board "sides".

I first started posting here during the KG trade rumor period. Funny thing is, most people DID NOT want to trade Jefferson for the guy. I started an account simply because I had to tell people that yes, you definitely trade for that guy, and that for at least a year or two, he'd play better than all but two Celtics ever have. Do you remember how silly people were at that time?

"Jefferson is a future All-Star! And we have to throw in Gerald Green and Gomes, too? NO DEAL!"

LUDICROUS!

I carried the flag for that team all year long, because we were the best team! A bunch of coldblooded thugs, and we proved that when we beat that sissy Lakers team. But we are not that team anymore, and neither are they. Anyone watching the games should be able to see that. We rely on defense and intimidation, and we aren't doing either with our old legs.

If I am LA, I am just worried about staying healthy, because Celtics, Spurs and Cavs are just pretenders to the throne.

And lest you think I am just being negative here, I am also the guy who just a couple of weeks ago was calling on us to try to work out a trade of Ray Allen and whatever for Stephen Jackson and Monta Ellis, which WOULD have given us a team that WOULD beat the Lakers this spring.

Only to be told by many that, "We don't need cancers like that."

I KNOW you guys remember that.

Right?

^^^Most people thought the Celtics had no chance against the Lakers. The outcome of sporting events are not foregone conclusions - otherwise they would be pretty boring.

I see this premise over and over. Such and such team has no chance against such and such team. But over and over its just not true. How many Patriots fans thought they would get bitch slapped by the Saints? I sure didn't. You just don't know how these things play out..

Most of the negativity spells from the team playing below a fan's expectations. You want to have high expectations, otherwise why watch. It was the players that set the expectations at 72 wins not the fans or the media (again, no problem with high expectations).

It's almost easier to follow a team of young developing players who play .500 ball because your expectations are so much lower. A win is more gratifying. With this team and this atmosphere, it is practically at the point where no loss is acceptable. Eventhough the best teams still lose almost a quarter of their games.

I'll accept a fans game to game negativity because, hopefully, it comes from caring and passion. It also drives most all forums. Fortunately there is much positivity too.
