Comparison of first 17 games last yr vs this year.

Ryan asked me to compare the first 17 games of this season vs last season.

I can tell you that 3 point shooting and rebounding were not problems as they are this season.

The 3 highest volume 3 point shooters last year were Ray, EH and PP.

Ray - 49% 3 point shooting in Nov.
EH - 40% 3 point shooting in Nov.
PP - 38% 3 point shooting in Nov.

[Ray is shooting 30% this year and Wallace is shooting 28%, they are two of 4 highest volume three point shooters.]

As for team rebounding, we averaged 43 rebounds a game through the first 17 games last year, 5 higher than the 38 we are averaging this season.

Our offense was scoring 99 points per game through 17 games last season vs 100 points per game this season. So we are scoring more per game now.

Through the first 17 games last season our defense was giving up 85 points per game vs 91 points per game this year. So our defense is MUCH more porous.

Our margin of victory last year through 17 games was 14 points per game. This year it is 9 per game. A big part of that is the reduction in rebounding. [each rebounds gives you 1 point per game so 5 additional rebounds is the differential.]

I have no means to calculate things like adjusted plus minus and win share for a partial season from last year.

Last year we also started with a weak schedule but we only had 2 losses in the first 17 games, and had a higher margin of victory. We were the dominant team in the NBA not one of the top 6.

This is a team that is playing like an "old team". Not hustling for rebounds, not defending the 3 point line as well, older legs missing long jumpers.

Some have said the team is conserving its energy for the playoffs. I hope so. Maybe we get the 4th seed in the east then win the championship like the 1969 team, Russell's last championship. We can always hope. But this team is not playing nearly as well as last year.

Haven't we talked this to death? Do you want the current team going all out? Do you really want KG and Sheed banging around down low 20 games into the season, a season where we currently are over .750. All your stats show are what we already know, we are not exploding out of the gate this year. The reason really is that in the past KG brought the intensity and this year he is returning from injury.

We are on a course now where we will shoot more 3s, get less rebounds and probably win a few less games. But come playoffs we have a much better chance to be good to go and we are currently the 2 seed in the east. The rest is directly related to the lack of rebounds and dip in 3 point shooting, but it is necessary.

How come you spend more time on our board than on the T-wolves board? How come they aren't treated to these types of redundant posts? Are you a bandwagon fan?

Not much to discuss on the wolves board.

Why are the wolves losing so much?

1) Love is out
2) Jefferson is recovering from severe ACL injury, and it takes a year (he won't be ready till Feb.)
3) Limited supporting talent after Jefferson, Love, Flynn and Sessions.
4) New players, coaches and system
5) New offense is triangle, difficult to learn and doesn't enhance PG's, and two of our four best players are PG - Flynn and Sessions.

All the big decisions are next summer

1) who to draft
2) who to try to sign as free agent
3) who to trade - flynn, rubio or sessions
4) Keep both Jefferson and Love or trade one of them for a better defensive center

Nothing concrete to discuss until the trading deadline and probably not until next summer.

Does my knowledge and passion lead you to believe I'm a bandwagon fan? Just because I didn't post on this board doesn't mean I wasn't a fan. I've been a Celtics fan since the 60's. Thats longer than most of you have been alive.

No, He is a rondo fan. He doesn't even like the Celtics. Hopefully, He continues to spam our board and finally gets banned for it. The last week without him was great.

Well if he has been a Celtics fan since the 60's then that means he's probably pretty long in the tooth. I'm feeling healthy today and pretty sure I have the endurance to wait him out. I take comfort in the fact that I will be posting on RealGM in 20 years. Wolves2011, not so much.

you must be absolutely brilliant to be able to read my mind and know I'm only a Rondo fan.

The last 50 years when I rooted for Celtics other than Rondo, I did it because I knew Rondo would come along in the 2000's right? How clever of you to understand these things.

No, that can't be right. That would make me too smart. I've rooted for the celtics all these years because I like peppermint schnaps, which is green. [Is peppermint schnaps green?] Therefore I became a celtics fan.

Odnor, which is Rondo backwards, was my choice for Tolkiens greatest realm of Men in the west of Middle-earth, but Tolkien went with Gondor instead, to my ever lasting regret.

Then I petitioned for Kia, to name that car the Rondo. That took many years.

And of course my liking of Rondo has nothing to do with his making the celtics a better team. That would be far too simplistic. I'm really rondo's agent as well as his cousin on his mother's side. ....

I like the kids game. Thats it. If I had to choose one current celtic to build around, it would be Rondo.

After guys like Lebron, Wade and Kobe, he's one of the guys I'd most like to build my team around even if he wasn't a Celtic. I think he is a winner. You see flaws in his game. I see a guy who is a winner. Like Bird and Russell were winners. I'm not saying Rondo is as talented as those guys yet. He needs to improve his shot, both jumpers and free throws. But if he does, then he is as good as guys like Lebron, Wade and Kobe.

You probably don't agree with my assessment of the kid. But please don't question my commitment to the team. I've smelled Red's cigar smoke and eaten at Kowloon. Watched the celtics play at the old Garden when it was half empty when they were winning 11 championships in 13 years. I remember cowan's driving taxi's, wicks and rowe, and McHale's limping around, and bird's stiff backs. Len bias, Reggie Lewis, and almost as bad, Antoine Walker. Watched almost every game through the the bad times with Pitino and early Ainge years.

Don't tell me I'm not a fan of this team. I've likely been a fan for more years than you have been alive.

Life long Celtic fan? And you chose that as your SN? Yeah right buddy. I'm a lifelong Laker fan. I've shot jumpers with Jerry West, gone out for martinis with Elgin Baylor, and tag-teamed numerous ladies with Wilt the Stilt. However, I chose this SN because it sounded really, really neat!!! Of course I'm not a bandwagon fan of the Lakers though.

I'm really only 2 months old. I precocious for my age. I was born when I joined this board, or is it three months... whatever. Believe what you want.

I'm really the reincarnation of Red or at least I like chinese food as much as he did.

The Celtics are not playing as well as last season or the season before. Thats factual. No arguing with it.
