Is it just me or is there some weird voting going on.
Are we voting for best game, or who wins the game, +/- 's. It has not been consistent at all. Double doubles are better than a 20 point production, sorry. And triple doubles(or near triple doubles) are better than double doubles.
And don't give me this its "who wins the game bs" Rondo clearly won that game in san antonio but yet scalbrine who didn't win the game gets it vs. nets 23 of you voted for scal

Rondo should have 4
Perkins should have 2
Sheed should have 1
KG should have 1

Guess I'll get razed like crazy and it don't really matter anyway but just wanted to know what gives here.

Well, speaking for myself, I vote for whom I believe had the most critical influence on the winning outcome of the game.

Personally I voted for Rondo in the Spurs game as in my opinion, along with having a good overall game, he killed the momentum that San Antonio had rolling in the 4th quarter. I also voted for Scalabrine because he played aggressively and hit shots during a time in that particular game while the contest was very much back and forth throughout. Following Scal's performance, the momentum changed and the C's pulled away for good.

Sully and I were discussing this the other day in another thread. There is a difference of opinion as to what merits the VC. I give it to the person who had the most impact on the overall game. Other people use it for "game turning plays" (e.g., Scal for a couple of key 3s during a 5 minute stint - because it helped to change the game's momentum). Other people use it both ways. Given the diversity of opinion about this, I do not think we ever are going to have a standard rule. But, you know what, I DO NOT CARE HOW ANYONE VOTES. I JUST WANT TO KEEP WINNING SO WE HAVE A CHANCE TO VOTE FOR SOMEONE! LOLOL.

P.S. I personally agree with your tabulation in the OP.

We came up with the idea of the award at the start of the '07-'08 season with the emphasis being along the lines of what darrendaye said essentially the key to victory. It was specifically not the mvp of the game or the guy with the best stats. The emphasis was on the team as whole and what keyed the win, it is supposed to be the post game thread it was supposed to be a discussion point not an argument. It was more about what than who, for instance Rondo's steal on Parker last night and why it was key to the victory.

It kind of hit the skids as soon as KG, who was not having big 4th quarters, wasn't winning and people wanted to make it more about stats, and +/-, and then there are people who can only vote on the box or game recap, and some people just vote for their guy no matter what happened in the game.

Obviously monster nights and game winners will get their due but it was supposed to be about digging a little deeper and not just duplicating what is already done. It isn't something you are going to be right about. To the point that one statistical accomplishment is more important than another, no it isn't every game is different, for instance if Shelden Williams or Marquis Daniels scores 20 that is bigger than KG or Perk going 10/10 because they are playing beyond their usual production.

It's just a small amount of fans voting. For me, a few different factors go into it. Usually it's who steps their game up the most. If Shelden Williams were to score 25 points, that is different than Pierce scoring 25 points. Another factor is clutch; if Ray has a decent but not-outstanding game for 47 minutes, then hits 2 clutch threes in the end and one to win it, he's getting my vote. If one player gives it 100% all game and it shows all-around in his stats, he will get my vote.

Half the fun of the Victory Cigar is that sometimes there IS no rhyme or reason to it. It isn't the "Game's Best Player" award, it is whatever we want it to be.

That's what I figured, I guess I was I looking for a clear way to vote and your rite if were voting were winning. That's what matters

Personally, I think Scal should just be awarded every Victory Cigar because of who he is: Irish look, Italian name; Pam Anderson breasts, etc.... I mean come on? How can you deny that?

My first choice is who or what was most instrumental to the victory, whether for 48 minutes or one play.

If it's close, which it often is, I'll try to sort out who did more for the team from an all-around standpoint. If I still can't decide, I'll factor in the negatives each player had.

If two guys are equally deserving and it could go either way, I'm more likely to to side with the lesser/role player. Big3 + Rondo don't need the recognition as much, and you gotta throw your worker bees a bone when they earn it.

When it is mostly a team victory and no one really stands out, I wish there was an option to choose "team victory". I don't exercise much logic when voting in those situations.

Isnt this the BOSTON CELTICS board? The Same team that predicates unselfishness, and teamwork. Lol and i doubt any of the C's are regulatory checking the board to see who got the cigar.

I don't like the thought of a "team victory" cigar. Not knocking the idea, but I think that's kind of a cop-out. Gotta pick someone
