The NBA of 20+ years past!

Post#1 » by Joselo16 » Fri Dec 11, 2009 4:27 am

I am only 24 years old, so I didn't really have a chance to enjoy the 80's league, but reading stories like the following one and watching old highlights of The Chief and Lambier (was Chief even called for a foul after whaling at Lambier???), Mchale and Rambis just brings misery to my sports life because here I am attempting to enjoy the league now, when had I been born in the 70's I could have enjoyed a more likeable league. I just like the take no bull attitude!

This is how I feel our guys should have handled the Dancing show the premadonna put on us when they beat us at their home.

Maybe I should get some classics DVD's but then I know how the quests end as opposed to now where only the ref's and Stern know (I couldn't resist)!

I wish they asked Tom Heinsohn, I'm sure he would have added "and then step on his chest".

I don't know if its cause I'm a homer, but I truly love Tommy's vicious train of thought. I mean I don't wish for players to get injured, but sometimes you just have to send a message that you aren't going to be pushed around. For example when Stevensen pushed Perk (Perk could have really been hurt there) and them made that 3 and did his can't see me thing (even tough he sucks and didn't really do anything else) I kinda hoped that someone would have done what Mchale mentioned in the article.

A little dance doesn't hurt anyone, but a clothesline will end a career. That's the bottom line. It's not just about the league becoming "soft." People need to get over their HATE/JEALOUSY for Lebron and gain some perspective. If Noah's too much of a sensitive pansy to take a little rubbing, then that's his problem.

How many careers were ended in the 80's? I only ask because I don't know.

That said I truly understand that someone's career could be ended, but should the player be trying to show up the other team? If your team is better, then its better, but don't rub it in with a stupid antic. If was a player I sure wouldn't want that going on and I have no hate for Lebron the player, he's a tremendous talent, but his immature antics is what kills it for me.

Well, I guess not that many careers have ended as a result of such actions. But the league tries to put a stop to those to prevent injuries. I see nothing wrong with that because it's actually a good thing that the league is trying to protect players from unnecessary injuries. One that comes to my mind is when John Starks committed a horrible foul on Kenny Anderson, which broke his wrist(?) and took him out for several months. And Kenny Anderson was never the same again. I don't know if Kenny was showing the Knicks up or not, but such flagrant foul should be prevented at all cost.

I agree with you in that Lebron has some immature antics, but that doesn't deserve his potentially getting injured and I feel like the hate for Lebron on this board is clouding a lot of people's judgment on how things should be. Trying to hurt someone, whether or not they taunted you or not, is completely unacceptable and has no place in basketball. If you can't take the taunting, make sure you win the game.
