Larry or Lebron?

Post#1 » by bendyone » Fri Dec 11, 2009 7:08 am

You are the GM of a new NBA team.....The Antione Walker owned Las Vegas Black Jacks.....you have the support of a time travelling capable Delorian....comes down to 2 players to get as the foundation of your new team....a prime Larry Bird.....or a prime Lebron 'dancin bear' James (I know room to grow still)...

Who would you take???

I'd so go for Larry....just cause im a confessed Larryafile!

LeBron, easy.

It's hard to compare eras fairly, but personally, I think that he and Kobe are the two best I have seen, followed by MJ, then Magic, then Bird, then Shaq, then Duncan, then Hakeem.

I don't go back before 1980, but Wilt and Russell finish off my Top 10, probably very high.

Was hoping some one would bring this up......Larry always made people around him better....Lebron, he needs his....he is a one man wrecking ball to be sure...but doesn't make people around him better.

Depends on if we play by new league or old league rules! The point of playing the game is to win championships thus I would go with Bird. Also how can a player who has won 6 rings as the main guy (MJ) be inferior to a guy that just has one (as main man) and another that has none? Is that ranking based on if they were to be playing one on one ball?

Larry.

Better leader. More efficient scorer. More clutch. Makes teammates better. Couldn't care less about image, money and PR - all about winning, and has better work ethic. Maybe the most tireless worker in the history of the NBA. I'll take him.

Bron is an unbelievable talent but Larry was a once in a lifetime character. If you lived through the 80's and followed the Celtics you'll know what I'm talking about. Still, you can't go wrong with either one...

LeBron doesn't make people around him better? Don't get me wrong, I HATE the guy, but that's just false.

Larry Bird. Lebron isn't even better than Kobe. Bird was better than Kobe.

I think Lebron is very good and better than Kobe, but Larry has proven that he could win the titles. I'm sure Lebron can too, but I'm going with the sure thing.

The NBA Championships argument is rather unfair to LeQueen given the fact that Larry Bird is an established Hall of Famer while LeBron isn't even halfway through his career.

Right now, I'd have to say Larry, but that's based on his entire career and Lebron is only based on what I've seen so far. And we have to remember that Larry was 23 in his rookie year and Lebron is 24 now.

Bird.

Partly because he could do it all, not just score. And partly because he never danced and played the fool like LeBron and the rest of the Cavs.

Well, not ALL. He couldn't really play D, which is essential to today's game. As much as people want to harp about the good old days and how the level of play was higher, the teams barely played D back in those days and on every team there were players that didn't need to be guarded from the outside, even SG and SFs.

g gs mpg fg% 3% ft% rb as st bl to fpg pts
897 870 38.4 .496 .376 .886 10.0 6.3 1.7 0.8 3.14 2.50 24.3 larry bird 3 rings
8,974 total rebounds 5,695 total assists 21,791 total points 13 total years

494 493 40.4 .472 .329 .740 7.0 6.8 1.7 0.8 3.29 2.01 27.5 laqueen no rings
3,459 total rebounds 3,349 total assist 13,608 total points 7 total years

Right now I go with the legend but if you double those stats based on 13 years and give laqueen 3 rings then it will be close.

Larry. I don't even hate lebron like some around here (though every stupid dance and mj# debacle gets me closer), but Larry was a winner. LeBron still might prove he is, and he's 10x the athlete that Larry was but Bird got it done and was the leader on a team that won rings.
