I know theres already a Tony Allen thread, but just read this article. It's pretty good.

I for one am rooting for him. People on here say that the fans don't like him. I disagree, he keeps doing what he's doing and he'll win over the crowd.

He'll never win me over. Yeah he has flashes of good play, but there is just too big a body of ($hitty) work for me to overlook...

Solid article to help balance the discussion about TA.

Actually what has Tony Allen done that was so bad? The kid had two bad knee injuries and prior to his first injury he was playing some very good ball and you can tell that he had the tool to be a pretty good player in this league. During the championship run when he was giving minutes in the Laker series Tony Allen played very good ball. I could blame Doc Rivers for making Tony Allen a point guard which lead to some bad turn-overs. Tony Allen will never be PG and I blame that Pg mind set that he might have on bad coaching. Now you can see Doc understands what Tony Allen really is. It was hard and long process but I think they have got it now. The only thing that has held Tony Allen back for bad coaching and injuries. I wouldn't blame the kid for that.

If he could take those flashes of good play and stretch them out into an entire season or three, it'd be great. But he's a bonehead. He can't do it.

Never? That's just hating on a guy, but coming from you that doesn't surprise me. Tony has had a rough road and he keeps fighting his way back.

I've never been one of the people ripping TA apart on here, but admittedly I had written him off. His biggest asset has always been his athleticism, and after all the injuries I never thought I'd see him physically looking as good as he has the last week, and man am I happy to be wrong. If he sticks to defending like he has and not gambling for steals he'll be a real asset to this bench. The occasional highlight reel dunk is just gravy on that defense, though if the C's keep pushing the ball hard Tony is a good offensive fit off the bench, he can finish with the ball.

Things I honestly like about TA: perimeter D, he is good at clogging the passing lanes and getting steals, he can be aggressive going to the hoop, still somewhat athletic even after his knee and ankle injuries

Things I can't stand about TA: biting on every pump fake, boneheaded plays, poor decision making

If TA never scored a point but didn't make mental errors, I'd love the guy. He's just done too much for me to overlook it. And he's in year 6 of his career and hasn't progressed nearly enough, IMO, to warrant being on the team beyond this year...

He doesn't bite on "every" pump fake, lol. That whole perception came about when he bit on Chauncy Billups a couple seasons ago and put him on the line to win the game. All of a suddenEverybody bites on a pump fake some of the time, why else would it be part of everyone's post game? Everyone makes mental mistakes, Paul and Ray are both turnover machines when they have to handle the ball too much.

TA by the numbers has always been a solid player. Its his injury history that has held him back. He isn't playing much better now then he did with us last year. He isn't playing much better then he did in his rookie year when he in training camp he was playing as well as Ricky Davis.

Tony Allen is simply not a very good basketball player. Don't really know how else to say it.

he is better than eddie on d and better than walker, giddens, lester, and scalabrine and has better stats than daniels. Saying that though i still don't like him and never will just rubs me the wrong way and I hope he plays well so his trade value goes up and gets us more wins.
I generally think he's talented but dislike his demeanor and attitude.

You just did...perfectly, too

And to Bad-Thoma, he was in the air for half the game his first couple of games back, biting on fakes as guys either leaned into him or drove under when he was in the air...same ol' TA...

^^^ Alot of guys bite on pump fakes. You are being ridiculous. Truth is guys don't do that much damage against him which you can plainly see in his numbers.

Tony really isn't "flashes" with inconsistent play. He is just injury prone. A 100% Tony brings it every night and you know what you are going to get from him. Unfortunately he gets hurt all the time. It takes a long long long time to get 100% from a tear in the knee so Tony's play lately doesn't surprise me at all. If he gets hurt again (major like surgery requiring injury), though, he's gonna look bad when he comes back (or if he tries to play through it like with his ankle injury last year).
