DISGUSTED!!!

First, it was a great feeling watching the celts beat the magic in a defensive dominated game. I was proud of how the guys battled today. However, afterwards I had to witness that ridicolous cavs and lakers game. I am a huge fan of the NBA and defend the league and its players alot of the time. Personally, I was DISGUSTED watching this game. The amount of whining that these players were doing in this game was a disgrace. After every whistle, ABC would capture either Kobe, Lebron, Gasol, etc. crying to the refs like infants. Although, the sole responsibility of the league and its players is not to display a picture perfect ideal to young kids, I think that on days such as Christmas, there should be a little more sportsmanship and personal morals shown. I do not have children myself, but if I was watching that game with my son or daughter, I would have turned it off about halfway through the third quarter. I think the players and David Stern should be extremely embarrased and should take a deeper look at the direction their league is going. What do you guys think?

Ideally, the "Christmas Spirit" should make them more sportsmanlike, but that's nothing set in stone. It's just a game like any other to these guys.
I don't like the direction that the league is going in, but that's not because of how Gasol, Kobe, etc. were whining after calls, but because of many other things.

O/U on how many times a game KG says says some variation of the f-word?
I'm setting the line at 250.

I think it is good for the Celtics that Kobe and Lebron whine. No one likes a cry baby and the resentment will build up. You see it with Sheed and Perk. Their whining costs them and us.
Whereas Doc has gotten Pierce, Allen and KG to reign in their whining and I think it helps their standing. I think a lot of the Celtics games have been called pretty fairly. Certainly, you couldn't complain about the Orlando game.
The thing I liked about the Lakers game was Kobe taking about 50% of the Lakers shots. This has to hurt their team spirit. He only made like 34%. Bynum got like 5 shots in the hole game.
I've seen this all so many times before. The self absorbed star (LA, Philly, NY etc) versus the Celtic team. And in the end in the back of Bynum's mind there is the resentment. Is Bryant going to take out his knee again with some out of controll move?

I remember a few years back when the Red Sox and Yankees had that brawl. Varitek picked up Arod and the teams got into it. After that everyone was calling for them to come out and shake hands the next day to set a good example for the kids. Now I am not approving fighting by any means, but this is my problem with kids, coaches and sports today. Kids are babied along from pee-wee through high school. Parents have problems if their kids don't play enough, if a coach cuss' or yells at a kid he risks being punished for it and this in turn shows when sports get more competitive in college and above. This whole sensitivity in sports has to stop at a young age.
Sports is as much about athletic ability as it is about mental toughness, teamwork and discipline. However kids today seem to miss out on the latter because they have to be hand held as they grow up. This probably starts and end with the parents.
In regards to the NBA, the whining is excessive, but that's because the league acts like parents towards their stars. Watching KOBE and LEBRON flail their arms yesterday, coming running straight at an official yelling and at times just mocking the refs you have to think Sheed and Perk would have got over 5 technical s in this one game alone if you were allowed to stay in after 2. The league would never dare risk Kobe or Lebron getting thrown out on Christmas Day. If they had a dust up on the court do you think they would even be ejected?
For that the NBA needs to take the kids gloves from all of their stars. I mean if KG gets a technical for an elbow grabbing a rebound how come Fisher and LeBron don't get a technical for getting up in each others face after Fischer gave that forearm shiver, or when KOBE ran into Shaq and didn't get the foul and came up punching the air?
Its a complete double standard with the NBA and its stars compared to the rest of the players. It makes the NBA look pathetic.

These are all good points, just realize that nothing will ever change for the better in this league as long as Sterny is running things. He created this mess and lost his compass for reason a while ago. His entire marketing scheme for the NBA has been slowly and steadily backfiring in the post-Jordan years.
This league is desperately in need of some competent leadership, give it another 3-5 years and more and more people are going to start coming around to this.

Really, the idiots that tape those games love that crap, they zoom in and we watch the stars whine while the game goes on and you miss the great plays.
I hate TNT, esPEEn and all of the rest, I like to watch the freakin games and Comcast lets you do that.
Lebron, Kobe, DWade all whine, pout and cry way too much and the sad thing is the league allows it and the officials listen.

Hilarious.
Plus, gotta say, there were some pretty blatant fouls against Kobe that weren't called yesterday.
Pretty sure people here would have been freaking out if that was one of our guys, lol.

Tony,
I respect you and I think you are a quality poster who comes and contributes to our board in a positive way 97% of the time. This is one of the 3% that you should think about before you post. Remember, this is a Celtics board, with very capable moderators. Just because someone posts something you don't like about the Lakers, doesn't mean you need to criticize them. You don't have to agree, but don't come in and give backhanded comments like "when did you start watching basketball?" That is not necessary. This isn't a warning or anything, more of just watch what you post on a Celtics board. Thanks. Canman.

This is trolling. So go away. You don't have to agree, but please bring more to the table than "you need to look in the mirror." Thanks. Canman.

And I'm referring to the players and coach, not the fans.

as a completely unbiased Boston fan I can tell you that nobody compares to Lebron and Kobe in that department...so I will take it as a sign of frustration that Dwight Howard laid and egg yesterday against us.
