Ray's expiring contract

Since we have a couple of days before the next game......

Looked at the teams who may be interested in shedding some future salary, and that had players they may be interested in moving, and came up with this list. This isn't a thought out trade topic, just a list of potential key figures that may be options as opposed to keeping Ray. Naturally, for those die hard Ray fans, one option is to keep Ray. Some of these contacts are very ugly.

NY - Jared Jeffries, 6.5 mil, 2 years left
Eddie Curry, 10.5 mil, 2 years left

Phily - Elton Brand, 14.8 mil, 4 years

Charlotte - Boris Diaw, 9 mil, 3 years
Gerald Wallace, 9 mil, 4 years
Stephen Jackson, 7.6 mil, 4 years
DeSanga Diop, 6 mil, 4 years
Tyson Chandler, 11.8 mil, 2 years

Washington - Caron Butler, 9.8 mil, 2 years
Antawn Jamison, 11.6 mil, 3 years

Memphis - Zach Randolph, 16 mil, 2 years
Marko Jaric, 7.1 mil, 2 years
(interesting that they have zero salary for 2011/12)

Oklahoma City - Nick Collison, 6.2 mil, 2 years
Nenad Kristic, 5.4 mil, 2 years

The hard part about trading Ray is we don't have a quality replacement on hand and we are already short on good outside shooting. So along with one of the above large salary players we may need the trading team to include a lower salaried guard and of course we may need to include a BBD or someone else.

the only one i would think about trading ray for is butler, but i would work on trading our other expiring contracts to fill out the bench and not shake up the core of our team

I was hoping the Suns would tank this year. I was rooting for a Ray for J Rich + deal. Maybe something like Ray for Richardson & Barbosa.

Ray for Gerald Wallace+change is the only trade I'd be interested in. Wallace is a beast.

If they do trade Ray (which I am 99.999999% sure would not do) it had better be for something better than any of the players listed above.

Ray Allen might get traded if the other team would buy him out...kinda like that McDyess trade last year....but Ray is too classy of a guy to have him go through that.

take the bobcats off the list.

And Crash won't be traded for expirings, if at all.

Washington will probably try to unload Arenas before Butler,
because Butler is actually a good value.

Washington will move their expirings before Butler,
so Mike Miller will also go before Butler.

Ray Allen
for
Martin, Nocioni

I'd only trade for Wallace if Ray was definitely coming back. Gerald seems to get injured and falls down a lot.

I was going to ask others what they'd thought about acquiring Jeffries a few days ago until I'd read he has a trade kicker. Yeah... Never mind. Lol.

I think Ray would understand if Ainge decided to trade his expiring contract for the better of the team longterm. However, you feel for a veteran like Ray because you believe that he wants to remain with Boston if it's possible. I'm divided on this, I'm a Ray Allen fan, but sacrifices have to be made even if it means that you breakup the Big Three. Because we can all agree that Pierce isn't going anywhere. And you can almost say the same of Garnett. You never really could feel that way about Ray. I mean given each of their contracts, Ray's expiring contract is the most advantageous for Ainge. Garnett's contract is all guaranteed, and Pierce won't opt out and shouldn't have to.

I would rather trade Ray, if it were up to me and I'm glad that it isn't, for a lesser name player than for another veteran All-Star or overpriced young talent. If Ainge could acquire another shooter like Mike Miller or Hinrich. That helps to replace the shooting you'll lose from losing Ray from this team.

Would love to bring in Gerald Wallace. Guy's only 27 and beasting.

Wallace and Diaw for Ray and JR works. They shed massive salary, and we get a stud in his prime and another useful (albeit overpaid) player. I'd pull the trigger on that. Don't know how hard up for cash Charlotte is. If I were I Charlotte fan, I'd be irate if they traded Wallace for expirings. Doubt this would ever happen, but I'm all for stealing from them.

If Washington decided they were in cut salary by any means necessary, I'd take Jamison and Butler for Ray in a heartbeat. That would be massive value for Ray. We'd still be light at 2 guard though. Not sure PP is quick enough to pull that off anymore.

Love the idea of bringing in Wallace, particularly though. It's good to have options, and Danny has nearly 30M of expirings at his disposal, so some fun trade talk should ensue over the next month and a half. We've got a rougher schedule in January, so, pile up a few more losses and the chatter will heat up considerably.

Here's another crazy one: Ray, TA, Scal, JR for Iguodala and Brand. As usual, they save huge long term money. We get another stud in his prime, and another guy who's really good, but overpaid.

Who knows how desperate teams will be to shed salary this year (or how willing Wyc, et al are to take on long term contracts).

although ray is no longer the player he once was there are a few intangibles to keep in mind about him: 1) he is a true professional and a class act. people like ray are hard to come by and teams covet guys like Ray 2) He WANTS to be here 3) he's durable. Some of these guys you're talking about ( Caron Butler for one) are constantly injured and out of the lineup. ray suits up everyday in large part because he takes fantastic care of himself. 4) ray is a calming and positive influence on the team and the younger players. I think the thing to do with ray is resign him to a smaller deal and reward him for his play as well as the other things he brings to the table. If his demands are too high then let him go. Either way we'll still be over the cap

Ray is a class act is just something we like to say. We also like to say he has a high BBIQ because he prefers to shoot rather then dunk.

Well this is the same Ray that screamed at Pierce because Pierce changed his routine. Ray is OCD.

This is the same Ray that decided to elbow Varejo in the balls.

This is the same Ray that makes selfish plays every game by leading the break when he can't dribble and going one on one ignore better ball handlers on the team.

Ray has never indicated he wants to be anywhere that he is paid less to be. And has advocated being.

Ray is the least durable of our stars, not through just this year.. but his entire career. And his body fragility may be the reason he seems to take entire post season rounds off... he may just not be able to do it under pressure of playoff defense. Sure against poor defensive team's he'll do well but the East will not be going through the poor defenses of the West beyond the first round folly we face.

Ainge said he'd trade Bird, Ray has shown many reasons for him to be traded this off-season. Because that's the tough choice. But it *may* be the right one.

But as for these stereotypes of "intangibles" Ray has. I'd look at them as no reason to not trade Ray and personally don't think they are based on truth.

It will be very interesting what teams and names will be discussed in potential McGrady trade...Ainge should pay notice because if we can get a player like Iguodala (PHI-HOU rumor) we must make a trade

Iguodala
Martin

Borderline all star players...our last chance to get a great player with this Ray contract

Iguodala+Dalambert
$23,560,000
For
Allen, Scallabrine
$23,180,000

You can than trade Dalaber to lets say Sacramento for Nocioni+Thomas or any other trade in summer with Dalambert expiring contract next summer.

RONDO
PIERCE
IGUODALA
KG
PERKING

Time to address our future and find younger sg, sf and pf!

Wow, I disagree with about everything you said. So many points that I feel the exact opposite on.

Our priority right now is to in the title this year. Any moves we make have to be with this goal in mind. It takes so long and so many things going your way to get to a point where you can say you have a good chance to win a ring. That said, Ray is better right now than just about anyone we could get for him. If a deal could be done here Ray is cut and comes back here, it would certainly be worth exploring. We could give him a good next contract to make up for any money he loses but the end result would be us taking on a lot more salary. So it is hard to think of a player that a team will let go for nothing that is worth paying max or near max for.

That line up would not be as good as what we have for winning a title this year. Down the line it would probably never be good enough for a ring as PP and KG and Sheed will be older. We can't do anything that hurts our chances this year unless injury strikes and we don't feel we can win it this year. BUT even if KG goes down, we have Sheed this year and we could swing a trade for more help.

For what it's worth I don't think we can make a trade for Ray that will keep us with the same ability to compete for a title for this year.

ONLY, because Rondo is the worst shooter in the NBA.

We need some spacing, and we'd need to trade Ray for someone exactly like him. I don't know someone like a Redd from MIL.

I love Ray, but we have other outside shooters that spread the floor. I wish more people would be on the inside. Besides Rajon has been getting better.
