Obviously talent wise it's a no brainer for the Celtics. The Celtics would never do this deal because it would put their payroll at $95 million for next year. The luxury tax threshold would be about $62 million for next year. The Celtics total payroll would be about $130 million for next season.

No deal.

Money you easily make back with even ONE championship.

A terrible trade for the Cs. Just terrible. No team on earth will touch Hamilton, whose game is heading due south, and his contract. The other guys are overpaid too. You would have to give the Cs two first rounders for the Cs to begin to consider the deal; even then they would never do it for salary reasons. The Cs can do much better if they want to parlay their expiring deals. Much much better. Go find some other team. Too bad Isiah Thomas isn't GM anywhere.

rip's game is heading south but he'd still be a great guy off the bench. and Prince would be a nice complement to pierce, taking the load off defensively.

maxiell and wilcox just add too much salary to an already expensive deal, i think the C's might take the financial hit to take on Rip and Prince for ray and whatever other expirings it takes, but the other 2 are just overkill..

Rip would be decent enough with the starters, but prince would be awesome to spell our wing guys

Take out the two first rounders and add Stuckey - Hamilton is a downgrade from Allen in performance and contract length, Prince is still solid, but it's a lot to pay for two wings, especially when Prince has the same position as our best or second-best player.

Don't think this guarantees Boston a ring, but it does put us in cap hell..

We have no incentive to trade for Hamilton, you'd have to throw in Stuckey..

An alternative would be trading Ray for Prince/Maxiell with the understanding that the Pistons buy out Ray's contract immediately


Two trades I like for the Pistons- Prince to the Clippers for Camby- you get out of his contract and he fits that LA lineup extremely well- and Rip Hamilton to Utah for a couple of smaller contracts, say Okur/Korver or Okur/Miles..

uh just curious about that 130 mill figure I didn't get that #. I get 63,326,049 with adding those contracts iget the 95 mill area but not 130, I'd do this trade instead though :Ray, tony, glenn, brian and giddens a 1st rd pick for rip, tashuan,wilcox and daye and a 2nd rd pick.
it work in trade checker and our pay roll would be 88 million still high but our rookies wouldn't count on the payroll we would have: rondo/hudson/2nd rd pick

That leaves us very thin and I change my mind for that second trade as well. Typed my self rite out of that one.lol I wouldn't mind rip and tayshaun on our squad though.

130 million would be after the dollar for dollar luxury tax applied to the total over 62 million or so, adding 30ish million to the payroll. Our owners are great and willing to pay for a winner, but i dont think they want to go that high.

No. Sorry. These guys are heading south and they are all way overpaid. Hamilton has fallen further than Ray and would be a step backwards. We can get a lot more for our expirings if we want to go that way. And if the Cs are going to take on huge salaries, with killer luxury tax implications for years, it is going to be for guys still in their prime who are not overpaid. Try another board, but, frankly, I think these are toxic assets. You are going to have to give something of real value, like no. 1 picks or promising players in their prime or entering their prime, to find anyone to take Hamilton. It was just a terrible signing by Dumars.

Rip has NOT fallen south.

He's probably one of the best-conditioned athletes in the NBA. His conditioning mixed with his style of play, he should continue to be productive well into his late 30s.

I wouldn't want to give up Ray or Big Baby, myself, but Prince and Hamilton are both playing well below their capabilities lately. The Pistons are in the process of rebooting, and Prince and Hamilton are both hanging around as vets who help them win a few more games. Both of them know it. Billups is gone, Rasheed is gone, Big Ben is gone . . . they're not on the same team they used to be on.

Injuries have been an issue, too. But these guys aren't washed up. If they're on the decline, it's still early. They're much better than they seem at the moment. Both are serious, smart, level-headed vets who can do a LOT of different things -- and do them well -- including play solid defense. You remember how Delonte was on good nights? Prince is a little slower, nowadays, but he's like a more consistent, taller Delonte West.

But I wouldn't want to give up Ray or Big Baby. Ray has *by far* the best plus/minus and impact ratings of *anyone* on the C's, statistically, and he has a way of elevating the bench that none of the other starters seem to have. Ray's game is often a little quiet, but look at his plus/minus at the end of almost any game. The C's kick ass when Ray's on the floor.

And count me among the people who thinks Big Baby's stock has fallen too far. He improved all during last year, and his work in the playoffs wasn't a one-game breakout. He's still inconsistent. He injured himself stupidly, but bad luck was 75% of that. And he's just getting back into it. But this is another guy where if we deal him out, we'll be regretting it later.

I think the supposed demise of these two players has been exagerrated- I think their performance this season is mostly due to injuries.

Having said that, I don't think the Celtics should do such a trade unless they'd get Ray Allen back after a buyout

I'd do it. As much as I love Ray, that's too much talent to pass on.

That second unit is crazy. More talent than most team's starting fives.

Cap implications aside, this is more of a deal you do in the offseason.

I don't know that there is enough time to integrate these dudes on a championship level between now and the playoffs.
