I became a basketball fan watching Bird/Johnson/Dr. J battle on the court, and perhaps I was naive at the time, but I thought they were decent guys worthy of my respect. Over time my respect for NBA players has just eroded away. If it wasn't for the fact that I've been a Celtics fan all those years and continue to be, no way I'd be watching the NBA. More and more it feels I'm watching a bunch of street thugs who temporarily are being paid obscene amounts of money to play a kids game, when their likely chosen alternative would be beating up old ladies for their old age pension if they hadn't been provided their god given athletic gift. There are clearly some good guys in the league and I hate putting the scum label on the good because of the bad, I have a ton of respect for Ray Allen as an example, but at some point in time I'll shut the NBA off.
