I'd rather keep Ray. Butler has looked terrible this year. Butler has only looked good in certain systems and I'd rather not take the chance that he might work in ours. Miller is not worth the talent difference.

I think its a good way to add longevity to this current core. Butler's 4 1/2 yrs younger then Ray and has better stats.

Just some stats that Caron Butler is worse than Ray in this year: FG%, 3P%, FT%, PPG, TS%, PER

All Butler adds right now is size and we don't need the rebounding when we already have Rondo, Pierce, Sheed, Garnett, and Perkins. Considering the rest of our core is about the same age as Ray and has the same window, there's no point to making trades to add longevity. This doesn't help us win this year and that's what's important.

Funk stats! Ray is playing with much better talent. How about Wins for a stat? Cfan your smarter than to use stats to justify a position.

It's not about longevity so much as diversity.

Butler's too unpredictable (in terms of production) for me to mess with core, but the trade is intriguing. You essentially get a two-headed monster to guard against the team's over-reliance on Ray in the playoffs. Butler gives you slashing, rebounding and better defense, while Miller gives you equivalent long-range bombing and similar ball-skills.

Butler is a bit too much like Richard Jefferson though. They take the well out of well-rounded. They can create for themselves and others, but not very efficiently. They play defense well but without significant impact. You can't say they can't shoot from deep, but you don't really want them to shoot from there.

Good idea though.

There about the same in pts and Ray is a 3 pt specialists so his field goal percentage is bound to be higher.

Like you already mentioned Butler is better at rebs and steals. Plus he seems like a better all around defender. We might need a little more length to combat Lebron James in the playoffs.

I like this trade and have advocated for trading Allen for a while but I think Ainge is committed to him at this point in the season. Miller is a player Doc likes and a good target for the MLE next year. I'm not sure about James but I liked him when he played for us a while ago.

i like Caron a lot but i'd rather not mess with the core this year. it's not really a talent upgrade, it's just a longevity upgrade, and i'm more focused on winning a title this year. we should mess with the chemisty midseason unless its a big improvement in talent. and frankly i think ray's outside shooting really helps out paul and rondo a lot, whereas teams could really pack it in against us with caron instead of ray.

maybe we could go after butler in the offseason.

Makes us a bit weak at the 2.

And probably too late to integrate the new guys on a championship level.

I like it otherwise.

Once again, Ray is not going anywhere.
