Glen Davis is fat and has not lift

baby is getting his shot blocked at an alarming rate and given his girth it doesn't look like he will be able to elevate any time soon. I'm down on our backup PFs right now. shelden williams is ok but not great and baby is out of shape. we need a leaper instead of all this slow beef that can't get off the ground

Baby's problem is not that he is overweight, it's that he shows the ball way too early when converting layups. He doesn't shield himself well, or properly and show's the ball too much.

I think the problem may be that he is still playing his way back to where he was during the playoffs last year - at least I hope so.

How did hurting his thumb keep him from running on the treadmill? Instead he took the time off to eat more candy bars.

It couldn't have anything to do with the fact that he's an undersized PF going up against athletic bigs like Josh Smith or Al Horford.
The guy is LISTED at 6'9". It wouldn't surprise me if he was actually 6'7".

As expected BBD is not really in great shape, IMHO. On the plus side we didn't sign him for that much. He is okay for his cost I think..

yeah, Pete, gotta agree, he's fattened up nicely for the long winter in Boston. Dummy, you'd think he'd have gpne nuts trying to maintain his weight. The hawks are a nightmarish matchup in the pf position for us w/o a healthy KG, which I think isn't gonna be happening maybe ever again......
WTH is a hyperextended knee?

You write this as if it's all of a sudden a revelation that he's fat and can't jump. I thought I was watching pretty close the last two and a half years, just when was it that he wasn't fat with little vertical?

Don't tell him that personally, 'cause he might try to punch you.

We've needed a leaper at PF for a long time. The last one may have been Jerome Moiso.

It is very disappointing to see; especially since I read good things about his offseason workouts and coming to camp in shape. After the criticism he took from his suspension, you'd think he would at least keep himself in good condition.

Red2:
I
apologize for going off on you last night too emphatically. I should have just said something like: "I disagree strongly. Here are the actual stats for PP in the fourth quarter, i.e. 10 points abusing anyone that tried to guard him, excellent D on JJ, 4 steals, 1 TO that almost was a great play, 3 missed FTs etc". And then quoted some facts from the 15 first games of the year (when he was playing All Pro level) vs. the next 15 games before he got hurt where he was sometimes great, sometimes average, and sometimes not very good at all.
Again,
please accept my apology.

davis may be a tad worse than last year but he's still way better shape than when he first got here.
comparing him to josh smith is a bit unfair. even if he got 3% body fat he'd never be that kind of athlete. i don't think BBD is doing much different than he did in the playoffs last year. he's fine, he just needs to get his timing back.
nobody was complaining when he dropped 15 on the heat.

His jumpers haven't even been close thus far, but I like what he's done on the boards.
Just a bad game against Atlanta. I like him much more than Shelden thus far.

exculpatory- no problem. I was super po'd after last night's game so I was looking for a scapegoat and when i saw those turnovers by pierce down the stretch it made me nuts. I like all the guys in green but baby has gained weight and he did have more lift last year

Yeah, unfortunately we're realizing that, like Rondo in the 2008 playoffs, he never really was a 'good' jump shooter - just a guy who managed to get dialed in at a couple of spots and who was able to start hitting them consistently.
Now that it's a new season, he's not dialed in anymore, and he has to start over. And his progress is slowed even more by the thumb injury.
Of course, if you read some of the ''scientific'' articles that make the round, there's no such thing as hot or cold streaks, all players field goal shooting is subject to a non-varying ''field goal percentage'' that is intrinsic to the players ability, and the fact that after a year of work he managed to get on a roll and that right now he can't hit anything - that's just random statistical variation...

My guess is that it will be another 3-4 weeks before Glen Davis is in game shape. He was out 2 months with the broken thumb, then he twisted his ankle and had to miss a few days.
Davis is lighter than he was at this time last year. He has been working on his left hand. His jumper is off right now but that is becuase he still has his thumb wrapped and his legs aren't under him. Once our team is healthy, its going to be really fun to watch. There is no need to call players out. Davis just had more offensive rebounds than over 4 of the Raptors startes combined(other thn Bosh). Everyone needs to have some patience.

^^^Davis is Davis - he will be a poor rebounder and leaper but a respectable facilitator with an okay outside shot. You don't need to get defensive about him every time someone rightfully points out his many flaws. He isn't supposed to be big time - just a capable fill in.
People need to stop holding the candle for his weightloss. if he was REALLY going to lose weight and keep it off he would have done so before being recruited to college or before the draft or before his last contract. <g> Guys like him can't control their appetite and yo yo around.. It fairness to Glen we all know its not that easy to do.
