Celtics interested in Nate Robinson

According to Mark Spears.

Little man Nate draws interest

The Boston Celtics and the Los Angeles Lakers are among the teams who have expressed some interest in New York Knicks guard Nate Robinson(notes), league sources said. Robinson’s base-year status, however, makes it difficult for any trade and the Knicks are said to be reluctant to ship Robinson to an Eastern Conference team, further complicating the Celtics’ efforts to land him.

The Memphis Grizzlies also have shown interest in Robinson, but the feeling, for now, isn’t mutual. Robinson can veto any trade and doesn’t appear eager to move to Memphis.

C's could have had him for probably NOTHING until that 40+ game he had coming back.

Not sure why they didn't get when they had a chance to get him for scraps.

I think it is hilarious that it is "speculated" that they don't want to ship him to another Eastern Conference team. Why? Because they might meet in the ECF and Nate will come back to haunt them? I think the Knicks should look at the bigger picture and hopefully they are.

celtspride17:

This has been discussed numerous times.

Because of Nate's BYC status, for the Celtics to trade for Nate
more players have to be involved than just Nate.

Because Shrink has said that Minnesota would deal
Ryan Gomes for a late First Round Pick and expirings
(but Minnesota doesn't want any xtra salary over the minimum they need,
meaning they'll take Scal but not Walker or Giddens, too)

than FOUR trades that WORK IN THE TRADE CHECKER for Nate Robinson AND Ryan Gomes are:

TRADE 1
Scal + 2010 First Round Pick to Minnesota
Ryan Gomes to Boston
Nate Robinson to Boston
Marquis Daniels to New York
JR Giddens to Minnesota (Celtics probably have to send cash for his remaining salary) or Memphis

TRADE 2
Scal + 2010 First Round Pick to Minnesota
Ryan Gomes to Boston
Nate Robinson to Boston
Marquis Daniels to New York
Sheldon Williams to Portland
2nd Round Pick from Portland to Boston

TRADE 3
Scal + 2010 First Round Pick to Minnesota
Ryan Gomes to Boston
Nate Robinson to Boston
Tony Allen to New York
Bill Walker to Minnesota (Celtics probably have to send cash for his remaining salary) or Memphis

TRADE 4
Scal + 2010 FIrst Round Pick to Minnesota
Ryan Gomes to Boston
Nate Robinson to Boston
Tony Allen to New York
Sheldon Williams to Portland
2nd Round Pick from Portland to Boston

Although Sacramento and Oklahoma City are under the cap,
because they already have 15 players on their roster
they can not accept another player
without cutting or trading someone else first.

Also, Portland's 15th player, Shavlik Randolph, is on a 10 day contract;
so there is "technically" a roster spot about to become available.

Memphis is the only other team under the cap.

If the Knicks trade Nate Robinson for Marquis Daniels, the Knicks save
$2.01 Million in luxury tax + about $1 Million salary for total savings of $3 Million,
maybe as much as 3.2 Million.

If the Knicks trade Nate Robinson for Tony Allen the Knicks save
$1.5 Million Luxury Tax + about $750,000 salary for total savings of $2.25 Million.

LAL has the biggest chance to get him if they take him with Jeffries

Jeffries+Nate FOR Morrison+Farmar

I think Bos has a chance if they offer 2010 or 2011 first rounder+ exp.

lester the molester went for 9 and 4 last night. looks like he CAN play in the nba. it sure seems we could have used some of what lester had to offer but we never played the guy. doc is kc jones all over again and we all know how that turned out after 1986. he ran his starters into the ground and that;s just what doc is doing with this team. the injuries are a function of 2 many minutes. doc hasn't learned and will not learn

This is just ridiculous. Injuries happen, whether you play 1 minute or 40. Exactly what injury is related to too many minutes? Baby's wrist? Daniels' wrist? Garnett getting hit twice by opponents on his knee? I find if funny that people really think that coaches would put their mulit-million dollar asset to risk. Injuries are part of the game, any game for that matter. Doc has nothing to do with it.

I know, we are in two totally different predicaments. We have a title team and they have a lottery team. The only reason they might have a chance at the playoffs is because the bottom of the east is so bad.

I think that the Knicks willingness to part ways with Nate Robinson and save
$2.25 Million to $3.2 Million in salary and luxury tax payments is totally a function
of whether they will qualify for the 8th playoff spot,
and all the additional revenue that that can bring in.

If the Knicks don't think they can get the 8 spot,
they'll trade Nate.

As long as they think that they can get the 8 spot,
they'll hold onto Nate.

Unfortunately the time to get Robinson has passed the 40 point game and other subsequent games sealed that. Looking at the EAST if you assume, Boston,Cleveland, Orlando, Atlanta, Charlotte, Miami and the Raptors are the top 7 seeds, there is no way the Knicks concede the 8th seed to the Bulls, Bucks or anyone else. The Knicks are making the playoffs especially considering their dreadful start. So unless they believe Marquis Daniels will help them more than Robinson, it isn't going to happen. I like the idea of getting Gomes back. i would do any of your proposed trades but I can't see the Robinson scenarios happening. Not to mention there is a very real scenario of the Celtics playing the Knicks in either a 1-8 or 2-7 playoff matchup and frankly the Celtics would have trouble stopping Robinson if he was playing his game.

I never read where he couldn't play in the NBA.....He just didn't make it with the C's......that's life. You liked the guy so I understand the gripe but if Lester was the better player he would have stuck.....choices were made.
