Should we think about trading Paul Pierce?

I love Paul and all, but should we start thinking about the future. We don't want be stuck in another rebuild mode for 20 years. The C's were too sentimental in the early 90's and kept the big 3 and it cost us.

He is still worth his contract for this year and the next. Afterwards we sign him for an MLE type of deal and then we wont be stuck and still keep our Franchize player. If Pierce decides he wants too much money after he expires then fine, dont sign him him but unless thats the case he will retire a Celtic...

It will be a sad day if we ever trade Paul

Paul Pierce will retire in Celtic green.
But dang..I'm glad Cfan isn't our GM..he would have traded the whole damn team by now.

Come on guy's your being too sentimental. Indiana offered a pretty sweet package for Larry Bird back in the day which we should have taken. I forget everyone involved, but I know the C's would have gotten Chris Mullin in it.
A lot of Red Sox fans were chanting for Mike Lowell to be resigned now look at him. All the while I was chanting for them to throw money A-rods way. Lowell now looks like a broken down old man and we had to watch the Spankees have a parade.

No. I don't see any reason to trade Pierce at this time. Ray should be the only starter on the block this season. Having said that, I have no problem entertaining any trade scenarios during the off-season.

Anybody know if Paul has final approval in where he goes if traded?

This is just nonsense. He is not getting traded. Ray Allen is not getting traded. Garnett is not getting traded. This is not even worth discussing because it has zero chance of happening.

Its not about whether its going to happen. Its about should we start thinking about it.

If we are stuck in a rebuilding mode for another 20 years it will hardly be PP's fault. The Lakers were able to avoid rebuilding without trading away Magic or Kareem.. OTOH other teams have traded away a ton of talent and are STILL rebuilding.
Management has to do its job to stay competitive.

Well the Lakers aren't like other teams. They get things handed to them.
The Celtics will still have KG and Ray plus what we would be getting in a trade. Then in the offseason Ray will sign for cheaper or we can sign someone else. Its might be time to reload not rebuild.

Maybe I am being too sentimental. But..
this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdCMU3MfX_U is better than any player we could have gotten for bird.
Paul Pierce, like bird will retire in green with a smile.

We could have still done that. Its not a written rule that someone has to retire with you to get their number retired. Look at Robert Parish, one of our best centers ever. He went on to play with Charlotte and got another ring while sitting on the bench for the Bulls.

There is nothing more I hate in sports than watching guys end their careers on different teams, sometimes crappy, to finish it out.
Favre on the Jets and Vikings--bleh
Montana on the chiefs--ugh
Even reggie on the celtics, I was kinda for it, but that just would not have been right.

Actually the Favre/Minny one might have worked out. I just hope he doesn't retire and come back before the next game.

Ok, lets start thinking about it, what deal do you think could be out there that you would consider for PP?

I'm not sure, it depends on if Paul has to have approval. If he doesn't I'd trade him to the team that has the best offer with a young star and expirings. Kings, Pacers and Warriors might be options, but they all stink at the moment.

Well, there are probably a dozen or more deals that I would consider. The question is how realistic they actually are.
I would trade all three of Pierce, Garnett & Allen for LeBron. (obviously this doesn't work financially) But I'm sure there are plenty of other guys I would take in return for PP either straight up or in some kind of 2-for-1 package.
