I haven't an insider account
I report below what I read on hp:
Rumors: Hey C's -- Ship out Ray. Win now.

Meh, just a lot of speculation about him getting up there in age. Nothing that we haven't heard before.

I'm guessing most teams would be all for a trade and then buy out so that Ray could rejoin the Cs... All they care about is that big expiring contract.
Jamison + Butler
RIP + Prince
Okafor + Posey
There are a ton of teams that would likely move some overpaid talent for that expiring.
I think that is good enough to come out of the east, but they need to make a move to beat a healthy Lakers team and Ray's expiring is the way to do that.

it was from a bill simmons post wherein he proposed sending scal, tony and other to chicago for Heinrich. Ray ALlen wasn't part of the deal.

Sources close to the thinking in Boston say that the C's plan is to allow Allen's deal to expire and look to re-sign him to a much more manageable number this summer using his "Bird Rights." However with so many major named players expected to be available at the trade deadline, it's been surprising that the Celtics have not been mentioned more as they have been among the more active "buyers" in the League.

That seems like the most logical stand to have on Ray until something actually happens.
I wouldn't be too upset if it happened, it's what I've been expecting honestly, all trade ideas aside.
1 year at 6 mil, team option at 6.5 mil in 2nd year
or 1 at 4 mil, team option in 2nd at 5.5 and a trade kicker or limited no trade clause
Ray understands the situation and Id imagine he'd flip a coin between either deal.
That would put us at no higher than 63 mil with everyone else expiring as planned. Anyone have an idea when Paul's ETO Date is? If Captain Paul would take a pay cut to about 12 mil that would take us down to around 54...cap is at 57 mil next year. More likely I would tentatively approach KG for the same thing, maybe Id bring the Big 3 all in at the same time to make it more acceptable to them...If KG would sign a new contract replacing this one but back ended in some deferred payments to offset his paycut in years that he probably would have retired (by then) in..and if not, send him back to Minnesota to end his career in 4-5 years w/e...if Kg would come back down to 12 with Paul (with Trade Kickers and all that stuff whatever) we'd have 10-11 mil to use and then bring in Joe Johnson..

Giving back some salary in exchange for more years is one thing but this idea that Paul Pierce and Joe Johnson are going to play for 10-12 mil is kind of silly. Ray is going to cost 10-12 mil, it would be nice to get Paul in the 15-16 range.
For Boston it isn't about getting under the salary cap is trying to stay within a budget that the team can continue to add talent and compete.

Well, confirming that you're trying to trade guys while they're still playing for you puts them in "get mine" mode and also brings down team chemistry. I'd rather keep it within the front office as well.
