http://bit.ly/6OT3tCHey JR, congrats on winning the Celtics slam dunk competition at open practice. 1st place gets a ticket back to the D-League.

poor guy. I wonder if this means something is going down. we're shorthanded as it so why send him to the D league now? Maybe some team wants to scout him and Danny needs to show case him

Exactly what I was thinking. He was getting time ahead of Walker, so I have no clue as to why he'd get demoted so quickly.

even more evidence why it doesn't matter if we trade our first round pick this year

So Kwame Brown busting provides evidence that trading a #1 pick doesn't matter? Or Joe Alexander's struggles provides evidence that dealing the #8 pick is no big deal? When you are the party with the ambiguous asset you would be wise to give more credence to the best case scenarios, when you are the potential acquirer, assume more tepid projections.

Because he totally sucks. He was getting minutes because we are trying to convince someone that he is worth a roster spot for the rest of the year and it didn't work.

Walker has and always will be higher than Giddens on the depth chart. Giddens was getting spot minutes (which were spotty at best) simply because Walker was working his way back from injury. He's now healthy and KG's expected back tomorrow--so JR goes to Portland.
Unlike Giddens, I expect Doc to slowly introduce Walker into the lineup, at least until Daniels is healthy.

There always is, of course, the possibility that the Celtics wanted Giddens to get some minutes and perhaps improve the holes in his game.
But no, wait, there must be something bigger going on.

Yea, Walker moved ahead of him on the depth chart.

Context. We're drafting in the 25-30 range not the lottery...ambiguous asset, credence, tepid projections...Keeping our pick doesn't matter because we don't play our young guys.

We have gotten a few legit NBA players in the back end of the first round, including Perk, TA, and Delonte West. Also, very close to George Hill and Danny Granger.

Or that KG is going to be active for tomorrow's game and had to make a roster spot for him.

Do we even know if Gidden sucks or not?

Given Doc's history, who knows if we'll ever find out what we have in Walker or Giddens.
The man wouldn't even play Rondo,Perk or Gomes until he was forced to.
It's basically a waste of time to draft young talent if you're Danny Ainge because your coach loves vets to the point that it blinds him to giving younger players a chance.
Need a back up point? We'll draft Lester Hudson.
Not gonna give the kid a chance Doc? Waive Lester Hudson.

We may not know, but Doc and Ainge do, so going on what they apparently know due to their actions, I would say it is safe to say he sucks as an NBA player.

They knew about Rondo,Gomes and Perk while they sat on the bench behind the likes of Telfair,West,Scal and Ratliff...right?

If you are going to try and make an argument, you should really try to know your facts first so you don't look silly. Rondo average about 23 minutes/game his rookie year. Telfair averaged 20 that same year. West did average 32mpg that year, but he also shared time at SG. And guess who got traded? Oh yeah, both West and Telfair. Now onto Gomes. He averaged 22 mpg as a rookie and a 2nd round pick. I would hardly say that was sitting the bench. Scal that season average about 10mpg. Again, you are incorrect. Perk is a different story. He came in as a high schooler who was young, overweight and really couldn't play basketball. I would say they have done right by him as he is now one of the best centers in the game. He wasn't even close when he came into the league. And for your example of Ratliff playing over him, well, Ratliff was in Atlanta Perkins' rookie year and in '06-'07, the Ratliff's only year with the Cs, he played in exactly 2 games and Perkins played in 72 with a 22mpg average. So, my fellow RealGM poster, I would say that what this all means is Danny and Doc know exactly what is going on and you do not.

Canman,
True or false
Doc prefers vets over younger players

When we're winning, he does, when we're losing, who cares. That's why so many of our picks turned out to be good, we were a bad team that could and was willing to develop our players. Since the KG trade, only 1/5 of our picks have gotten legit minutes and it took a huge breakout game against Detroit his rookie year to be given those minutes.
I wouldn't say Walker or Giddens are bad, it's just they haven't been able to show what they could do to let Doc trust them in a game situation. Doc just flat out prefers vets, it's not that they aren't showing anything in practice. I can't imagine them being any worse in practice than Scal and he still gets significant minutes.
