Boston Incoming
Jason Richardson
Lenardo Barbosa
Phoenix Incoming
Ray Allen
I was just wondering if Phoenix would laugh and hangup or would they actually entertain the offer?

I think if it ends up being a pheonix boston finals, they're gonna want jason richardson, aka celtic killa.

I think we'd be lucky to get just J Rich for Ray and I'd be willing to do that right now considering how Ray's played lately. Phoenix probably laughs and hangs up on this deal. I mentioned that Phoenix would be a good trade partner, seeing as they'd have a stronger interest in Ray than most teams, since he's an expiring, they could keep winning now with him, and potentially bring him back next year on the cheap in place of J Rich, but that's all we could reasonably get for him.

I think J Rich is a perfect target for a Ray trade. I've been promoting this very same deal for a long time.

I don't think either team would do it.

Unlikely Phoenix makes this trade, unless they want to shoot for a first-tier free agent. Rudy Gay would look good there, and trading J-Rich/Barbosa gives the Suns about 12-15 million in cap room - even more if Amare opts out..

I didn't realize their cap position was this good for next year. I also didn't realize that Barbosa is far from where he was a few years ago. I could see them possibly making this move, but it depends on if they're content going into next year with the same team or if they'd like to shake it up and go into next year with Amare or some other max free agent and a ~$12M caliber free agent.
I really doubt a trade involving Ray goes down, but if one did, this would be my ideal trade and Phoenix would definitely have to consider it.
EDIT: And another hold up could be made on our end, seeing as Barbosa's out the next several weeks.

Phoenix would jump on that frigging deal. In fact, they would probably get pulled over for speeding on the way to drop those guys off at the airport, lol.
If we trade Ray, IMO half of what comes back has to be expiring, or we will get drilled in the lux tax in the next couple of years.

We really forget how good Ray is sometimes.

It's not a talent issue, IMO. Phoenix is falling apart. About to lose Amare, and Nash is a bazillion years old. Anyone who thinks they are a legit contender this year is fooling themselves.
They have no young talent and don't even own their draft pick this year.
That trade for Ray is basically a lateral move for this year, and then... poof... massive cap room and rebuilding time.
They do it, no doubt.

If Kerr is still the GM, then it's possible.

Yeah Barbosa is playing like garbage this year. We're way underselling Ray here. This is a terrible trade for the Celtics. Phoenix would probably do it for the cap room.. but I don't know why you would want a streaky shooter (Richardson) over another one who has proven himself clutch time and time again. You break up the chemistry and core of the entire team to get a player who is probably worse than Ray Allen. Doing this trade is like saying this year is over let's give up before the all star break.

Fixed.

Who said they're a title contender?

We get six years younger for a guy that is nearly on par with Ray at this point in their careers. The only thing Ray absolutely has on J Rich is the fact we know Ray fits well into our system and a more consistent jumper. Richardson's a better defender and also a very good shooter. He's also better at getting to the rim and would bring some more energy inside on rebounds as well (we've been getting killed this year there). All while getting another decent piece (although not as good as he once was) to our bench.

This is as plausible as the Ray deals get, really.
I'd strongly consider it, except I wouldn't want Richardson on the team after he tried to pull that 360 in a one point game against the Cavs, that's the kind of thing that should get you cut on the spot. Or shot. The single worst thing I've ever seen in an NBA game.

I don't think Richardson is a better defender, although he is more athletic which is nice on both ends of the court. Statistically it seems better, but I'm skeptical as to whether he would really make the Celtics any better at all. Talent and stats don't always mean a better team. What goes on in the locker room and behind the scenes is very important. I don't know much about Richardson's attitude but I know quite a bit about Ray's...

Perhaps we have a different understanding of what the word "have" means.

The main goal for Pheonix is to save money while remaining competitive. They gave Shaq away for expirings that never even put on a Suns uniform. They routinely sell their draft picks to other teams. They are a very frugal organization and this trade would allow them to stay competitive while cutting future salary. They might ask for a 1st rounder that they can sell off later, but thats fine. It will be a late pick anyway. I could actually see them doing this.
For the Celtics i think it is clearly a no brainer.

Character is not an issue with Richardson yes he is a showman and showed poor judgment on that dunk but to cut him that is absolutley rediculous. He would be the perfect replacement for Ray. And Barbosa is no slouch on defense either.
