CSNNE: Totally implausible Monta for Ray Allen rumor

http://www.csnne.com/pages/landing?More ... eedID=3945The trading deadline is less than a month away, and rumors seem to grow like algae.
This is especially true when it comes to players with expiring contracts such as Boston's Ray Allen.
While the Celtics have maintained repeatedly that they have no intentions of moving any of their core guys between now and the Feb. 18 trading deadline - and I believe 'em on this one - multiple league sources confirmed today that the Golden State Warriors are giving some thought to putting together a trade package that would involve Monta Ellis going to Boston in exchange for Allen.
The Warriors see rookie Stephen Curry as the face of the franchise moving forward. One league source said the Warriors believe that Curry won't develop at the rate they would like as long as Ellis is around.
Golden State saw flashes of just how talented Curry can be against New Jersey earlier this week when playing without Ellis.
With Ellis out with a sprained right ankle, Curry went off for a career-high 32 points.
For such a deal to work, the Warriors would have to include at least one additional salary. The most likely player to be included would be Vladamir Radmonovic, who has a player option after this season but isn't expected to exercise it.
Danny Ainge, Boston's president of basketball operations, has talked to a number of teams about a number of players recently.
But it doesn't appear that this is a deal he has given any serious thought to considering.

Anyhow... there is no way this would happen with either Radmanovic or Maggette attached. We are not going to pay a dollar-for-dollar lux tax on either of those horrible contracts.
But Monta and Raja Bell (with scrubbage to balance out the numbers)?
Hmmm.

I always wanted Monta on the Celtics, warts and all. He'd be a real spark of energy and offense but I'm not sure yet if I'd give up Ray for him. Maybe put Raja Bell in the trade instead of Vlad Rad and I'd think about it.

I'd do Monta and Rad for Ray Ray.......offencive output is more than covered....as is D....and adds greater fleability to the bench

Radmanovic is putrid. And if he doesn't opt out, his contract would cost us $14 next year.
Never happen.

It would have to include Bell. And then I would take this deal all day and night 24 7 365!

I don't know what to think about this trade, other than the fact that I don't see it happening.
On one hand, I think Monta's a huge talent and it's tremendous value for a declining Ray Allen at age 34. On another, I'm still not convinced it makes us a better team. Ray can be a big asset without the ball in his hands by spacing the floor and playing off the ball while Ellis doesn't have Ray's range and is a ball dominator. I also think a Rondo/Ellis backcourt might be too small to even compete defensively against 2's.

It's pretty intriguing. He's got hella talent on the offensive end, and is probably no worse than Ray on the defensive end, and has a lot of upside and career ahead of him. Ray just declines from here on out. I think Danny would not hang up the phone on this. Seems pretty pointless from GS's perspective. That's giving away a lot of talent for what essentially amounts to an expiring for them (even though Ray can still play this year). Still, at the developing stage in which the Warriors are in, trading a really talented young guy for an expiring is just plain stupid, even if the rationale is to give Curry PT. They can get more for Monta than Ray's expiring methinks.

Contract may be stupid.....but we need to roll the dice....if we dont win this year....chance we win one in the next few years declines each year..........
Id like to see some proactive care to the wind moves.........not sit on hands and hope

i'd think long and hard about this one. i think Ellis is a extremely talented scorer but a Rondo/Ellis backcourt just seems too small.

Won't happen but I would love the get Ellis on the C's. People actually think the C's would be a worse team with if this happened

Hmmm.......intriguing......thanks, but no thanks. Monta is talented, but how well would he mesh with Rondo? We already know Rondo can be headstrong. However, I've heard the same thing about Ellis. I'm not sure how that would work, seeing as how both are young players, hungry for individual accolades.
Again, the trade does sound very intriguing.

Celtics do this trade and it means that they are giving up trying to win a championship. It won't happen.
You know something that always gets overlooked when it comes to Ray Allen and the rest of the big three is they all sacrifice their number of shots for the success of the team. Ray Allen gets 12 shots per game. Monta Ellis shoots 22 shots per game. Ellis coming to Boston would be a disaster. It would destroy the team offense and make the Celtics look like well, the Warriors.

It would be ignorant to think that ainge is not looking to move allen before the trade deadline.

Agreed, last year was different, but this year, you've got to expect lots of rumblings.

He played along with the super chucking ball hogs baron and jackson so I don't see a problem with those two being on the same court with rondo handling the ball the majority of the time. Ellis' 15 ft jumpers are his money shot and he can dismantle defenses in the half court.

I think GS could get more for Ellis than just dumping Vlad but if they want this deal Danny says yes in a heartbeat. First of all hoopshype list Radmonovic's salary at just under 7 million next year. I think he has a trade kicker but I can't imagine it doubles his salary. Second of all even if a Rondo / Ellis back court doesn't work Ellis would be a very tradeable player. He's only 24 and is locked up for a few years. Who know's Ellis / Davis / Sheed might fetch you back Bosh, Amare or another big time FA if a team fears they will lose their star for nothing.

I love Ellis, (Ray as well) but no way you can go with Rondo and Ellis together in the same backcourt full time. At there size and lack of range they would get killed, full time.
Now as crazy as it sounds the idea of Ray for Maggette and Ellis is something all together different. Boston could use Maggette as a starter at the 2 or 3 beside Pierce and bring Ellis in as a 6th man. Because of Maggette and Pierce's skill set it would allow Ellis to essentially play almost all of the mins behind those 3 guys and play well over 30 mins a game. Will Ellis accept that role, I don't know, if he was going to accept it anywhere it would probably be here in Boston.
While Ellis has value it is in a swap nobody is going to give GS the deal Ainge was looking for with Rondo, you don't get cap space and cheap lottery talent with the current economics of the NBA. They can swap him for another young star scorer but I think the Warriors are looking to build around young guys and you can lose with out paying guys 10-11 mil a bucks a year.
Hell better than getting Maggette just take back Vlad Rad with the wink wink that they waive Ray Allen and he can re-sign in Boston and just give him a 4 year MLE deal in the offseason and everyone can hate us like we hate the Lakers.

Sully, I hear you, but check out the lux tax implications on what you just said.
We'd have a $100m+ payroll next year in that scenario, lol.
I dunno... I just have a hard time seeing Ainge do Ray like that.
