What is Ray Allens Trade Value?

There has obviously been a lot of talk recently about the Celts dealing Ray Allen.
What type of trade value does he have?
Is it just as an expiring contract?
(Panel on CSNE say they should trade for Monta Ellis but GS would never do it.)
What type of player could we even get for him?
Ainge has always criticized the Celts for holding on to the original big three so he will eventually have to make a move.
Additionally, what can we even do with his slot if he just expires at the end of the year?
I am interested in your thoughts.

I really feel like Ray is almost a "must trade" this year. Don't get me wrong. We can't trade him just for the sake of trading him. However, if we let him expire, it becomes very difficult to replace him in the future.
Having said that, if we can't find the right deal and he does expire, we need to bring him back on a 1-year deal and slightly overpay for him. I'd rather give him $12Mil for one year than say $15Mil for two years. That gives us another opportunity to trade him next year for a fairly significant player.

That's from the Pistons board:
Cowology wrote:This is a bit bigger and probably less realistic, but the deal I'd like to see is...
Detroit: Rip, Tayshaun & Maxiell
Boston: Ray Allen, Tony Allen, Sheldon Williams & Brian Scalebrine.
We give up a lot of talent, but clear a **** ton of cap room (about $27 mil). I'd look to keep Tony Allen as Gordons backup and might look if Williams could be had for cheap as well. Boston would essentially be adding the Pistons core of Tayshaun, Rip & Sheed to Pierce, KG, Rondo & Perkins. That is all kinds of win. It not only makes them the clear favorites, but extends their window another year or two without creating the sort of long term obstacle that helping Cleveland would.
I don't want to take on Maxiell, but someting in the line of:
Detroit: Rip Hamiton, Tayshaun Prince & Will Bynum
Boston: Ray Allen, Tony Allen & Brian Scalebrine
would be very nice.
C - Perk/Sheed
PF - KG/Baby
SF - Pierce/Prince
SG - Rip/Daniels
PG - Rondo/Bynum
with Shelden and House gettin' spot minutes. That line-up could challenge for a best defensive team of the decade easily.

I wouldn't trade Ray just for the sake of trading him (though, admittedly, my idea of value, particularly his value, is a lot less than most other people.) That being said, in my mind, any deal that does jettison him HAS to include Bang Belly Davis AND include some cap relief this summer (save for if said deal includes a couple smaller bite-sized contracts that expire a year into the future.)
[Edit]Forgot to add and this was one of my major arguments about trading Ray Allen two years to a year and a half ago when he still appeared to have "carry a team offensively" kind of value. Most every salary dump pre-star/star/superstar deal has included, at minimum, a future 1st RD pick plus the expiring contracts to make the deal work. It is my contention that holding Ray for as long as the Celtics have, they are assed-out when it comes to his trade value. I said about two years ago that, barring a trade before this past summer AND the development of minor chits AND 1st RD picks, a move for Ray would be highly unlikely. Furthermore, upon resigning (the Celtics virtually have no other choice because of Ainge handcuffing the team, imo) with the Celtics, he would get just north of the MLE and would be an overpriced contract for those contributions.

Why do you want to get rid of Baby?
Why do you want cap relief?

Ray has two types of trade value. As mentioned bad teams would trade for him to dump salary. However, he is still a very talented player who can help teams in the playoffs. I am not suggesting any trades here be surely the likes of Dallas, Phoenix, Utah, Cleveland, Memphis, San Antonio would love to have Ray Allen.

There are 3 types of team's which would love to have Ray's contract and thay probably covers a quarter of the league. Those who are still hurting financially, maybe not from the basketball finances but from the owners loses in other buisnesses. Those who want to reduce future salary for impending free agency and a chance to restructure, including just getting rid of bad contracts. Those that are reducing financial commitments for future sale of the franchise.
Ray's contract is too valuable to hold on to. Monte Ellis - hell yes, he'd be our best offensive player and DA has liked him since HS. Holding on to Ray means we come back with the same team next year - not ideal.

I doubt he gets traded and if he does I think there is more than a 50% chance he comes back after a buy out.
On the big show they were talking about next year and the assumption was that the Celtics would not resign Ray. That doesn't make sense to me. He will be worth more than MLE money but teams under tha cap probably wont want to spend on him, so if he is not playing here a sign and trade would seem likely.
I think we just keep him and resign him for 2 more years.

If they keep Ray and resign him, he will, at best, be the 5th best player on the team, maybe even 6th to 7th depending on off-season signings. PP and KG will be a little further down the downhill side also. Rondo and Perk will improve a little but not enough to make up for the old-3's decline. This is the best we can be if we don't trade Ray.
If we don't trade Ray, and we continue on the downhill slide against younger teams, we may end up having to trade PP's expiring contract next year.
There should no problem trading Ray for a guy 5 -10 years younger who can give the team equal output and a lot more energy. I don't see how we can't do it.
Remove the compassion for Ray and you have to explore the options.

His trade value is decent because he's a big expiring that can actually ball. The Celtics lack other good assets to throw in (draft picks, prospects) to make it worth trading to a bad team trying to dump a good player and won't get enough in return by trading him to a good team. His trade value would be higher if we could get some draft picks or something to bundle with him and we could get almost any player on the market right now.

One of the things that might lower his trade value a little bit is that other general managers might be concerned that Allen would be unhappy playing on a non contending team. Sure, he's already won a championship, but I'm sure he would rather keep pursuing titles until he retires.
