A source close to team told fanhouse that the pistons are trying to trade hamilton by the offseason, think they want to get anything good back in return or are they just trying to dump his contract?
Any thoughts thinking maybe we can strike a deal for him?

I hope Danny is calling Dumars because we could get Rip and/or Prince for Ray's expirings and filler.

I'm not against dealing Ray, but, a deal for either would/should require more than filler. I'm giving Rip the benefit of the doubt that his abilities aren't R.I.P., but even at 08/09 numbers he is overpaid and will be so for 3.5 more years. As for Prince, again not the year to deal him if you're Dumars, but even if you want to call this half season an outlier, he's been in a slow and steady decline too. If I'm Ainge, I push Dumars to include Stuckey in either deal, insisting on it to take on Hamilton's contract.

Ray, Scal, JR for Rip, Prince, Stuckey works.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=yle8g9s Rip has an ugly contract, but he's pretty similar to Ray. Prince would surely be a help backing up Pierce, and Stuckey can backup up both the 1 and 2. Has zero chance of happening, but fun to play around anyway. They get cap relief and we get immediate help. The cost to them for the cap relief is giving up Stuckey.

I hope Danny doesn't try and do something like that. Will Prince even play again this year? Dude has been out all year long..he hasn't even been that good lately anyway. Hamilton is basically the same player as Ray, without the 3 pt shooting, and the clutchness. If Ray goes, it needs to make us alot younger.
*EDIT. NVM Prince came back the other day. If you throw Stuckey in there I probably go for it. One guy from the Pistons I would LOVE to have would be Ben Gordon..but that's pretty impossible..

Rips contract isn't that bad, He's making 12-13 million a year. Plus he's younger then Ray so we can team him with Rondo and Perk for longer.
There's no way they'd give up Stuckey. He's their franchise player they want to build around.

I'd rather try to get Iggy from Philly though. I read somewhere the Cavs are offering Ilguaskas for him. We could offer a better deal then that.

I'm a fan of Rip but not on this team, especially if he is replacing Ray. He would not space the floor the same on the offensive side. Besides Pierce the starting lineup needs to have a SG that takes and makes the 3 point shot. It creates room for Perk / KG to operate and Rondo / Pierce to slash.

Rip may be younger but the problem is that Ray is the exception most SG's are toast at 32 and Rip Hamiton looks burned and buttered right about now. What the hell does he do well anymore? Half a season of playing with AI turned him into AI. How can a guy be on a team with Ben Gordon and Rodney Stuckey and have a USG% of 29?
Who the hell coaches the Pistons anyway maybe when you shoot below 40% (eFG of 42%) you don't need to jack up 18 shots a game?
I don't want hate on Rip he had his time, I don't have anything against him or anything but I would assume just bring back Dominique as pay he is ass 37.5 mil over the next 3 years, talk to me after he gets bought out.

I would have made the Ray for Rip and Prince move last offseason, but they both look completely flat now. I'd still consider it if Rip's contract wasn't so long, but I really hate the idea of adding any major contracts for older players that last longer than KG's contract.

Too bad we don't have the assets. I wouldn't give up Ray for him.

I agree. How about Allen and "Just call me Glen" for Iggy and Dalembert. Or, Allen for Iggy and Kapono. Philly saves a few mil this year and a ton of money next season. Trading in the divison? So what. Sixers should be praying for John Wall at this point.

i think philly can get a lot more for iggy and dalembert than ray and glen, even if they do save money. I have a feeling philly is going to make a late playoff run, you'll see

I have always disliked Hamilton for playing dirty, however he would cause havoc coming off baby and perk screens, and playing dirty for the celtics would then be a positive. If they're just looking to drop his contract I'm all for it, especially if we could keep Ray on the cheap to come off the bench. THAT would be a team.

How about this for Phoenix:
Iggy, Dalembert, Willie Green FOR Stoudemire, JRich, Jared Dudley.

With a possible lockout and reduced cap coming soon, it would be financial suicide to take on a contract like Rip's for a player of his caliber.

How can anyone say that Rip is looking old, or losing it?
He's probably one of the best-conditioned athletes in the NBA. He would run all day long if asked to.
His scoring and assists are both up from two years ago. He's added a good 3-point shot to his arsenal over the past 2-3 years.
He had a pretty severe ankle sprain right out of the gates this season, as is just now getting back to 100%. The difference has been night and day when comparing him when he first got back into action, to his last 4 games (averaging 45% FG, 20 points, 7.5 assists, 3.75 boards)
That said, the Pistons are in full-out rebuild mode, and you guys have a 2-4 year window to win as many rings as possible.
Rip/Prince/Maxiell for Allen/Scalabrine/Selden/2010 1st rounder makes too much sense for both teams not to happen.

If he is so great, then keep him.
Celts won't take on that contract for a guy who is a poor man's Ray Allen.

Allen is a better 3 point shooter than Rip of course, but Rip is far quicker and therefore a better defender. He also has the best mid-range shot in the NBA.

I would do this in a hot Kentucky second. We don't lose much if anything replacing Ray for Rip and actually get a player with a very similar style, we hugely upgrade our nonexistent backup 3 and as far as I'm concerned Maxiell is an upgrade over Shelden or Davis. Not to mention we get two guys who can board, 3 who can play D and 3 guys who aren't going to drag ass all over the court. It's not ideal but we're not going to get ideal.
