Celtics Made an Offer for Hinrich

That's why the Celtics made a run last month at acquiring Kirk Hinrich, who has three years (including this season) and $26.5 million left on his contract, an outlandish amount for someone who would be Boston's third guard. But he would have resolved all of Boston's backcourt issues while extending its defense, and so the Celtics considered offering spare parts for Hinrich before the Bulls decided they needed a high-quality player or draft pick in the exchange.

Thanks to dafunky1 for pointing this out. I felt it warranted its own thread. Interesting. At least we know Danny is thinking about the same problems we are. Question is do you give up a first? It'll be a low one. I got two words for you when considering your answer: JR Giddens.

It is nice they are making offers but I am starting to see that this team will not get a decent bench player with the spare parts they are offering.

Hinrich is making too much money to be a backup and he's too small to be a starter in place of Ray. Its really good to see that Danny is looking though.

Not right now, no. However, at the deadline, the if teams with the players they want to clear from their payroll are still sitting their, their price will come down. No sense screwing up your teams future for a few months. Danny and other GMs know this, which is why we won't see any trades until the day before the deadline at the earliest. It would be stupid for anyone to do otherwise.

Yep, I value our expirings contracts more then Hinrich. If we get desperate enough we could just sign someone like Dooling who might get waived.

I would rather go for a better player with Ray`s contract. if we can`t get Martin, Igoudala, Monta then I would be OK with trading for Hinrich with our small expiring contracts...

Obviously not. Teams don't want to do us favors, and what has been coming up in trade ideas / rumors has been so low in trade value I can't imagine any team even wanting those players. No one wants Giddens, Walker, Scalabrine, etc. I think Celtics fans have this idea for whatever reason that we can just acquire anyone we want if the contracts match up.

I blame this all on the Spurs: they took our guy George Hill a couple of picks before ours and I would rather have Hill than Hinrich. Damn you Buford and your flowing locks.

And we'd have to give up a 2011 pick, I'm pretty sure. I don't want to give up a first rounder in most circumstances: I like our drafters.

Hinrich would be a great fit on our team if we ignore the salary. He can play both guard spots both offensively and defensively. Plus he would give us a backup PG that can actually handle the ball and move House permanently to SG. Very glad that the FO is trying to make a move like this to make the team better irrelevant of price. I think this type of move, while hard to make, would be much more productive than trading one of our starters.

Over the next month, we will find out that Boston has made moves for alot of people. Danny wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't hooked to that phone dialing people trying to improve the bench.

It must be nice to have a GM that has flexibility and won't just have to sit on his hands before the trade deadline. I respect what Danny has accomplished.

Kirk Hinrich would not only be a good fit, but his contract also decreases each year. John Salmons would possibly be better financially and he only has one season left (after the current) on his contract. $5.4 million currently and $5.8 million next season would make it easier to move him for value next season.

If true at least it shows the Celtics are willing to go out and spend money to fix the bench. Ainge will get someone before Feb18.

You know what would really shake up our team and would be a bold move.

Hinrich, Tyrus Thomas(expiring), Jerome James (expiring).

For

Ray Allen (expiring), Sheldon Williams, Tony Allen(expiring)

Hinrich is an elite defender at the 2 spot. A PG quality dribbler and passer which would allow us to use Eddie House.

And Tyrus Thomas is a fast athletic player that we don't have and can do a little of everything (steals, blocks, little jump shot). He is also an expiring contract.

We'd likely be able to if we wished, buy out Jerome James and sign Tyron Lue... but with Hinrich here that seems unnecessary.

And Hinrich's toughness and great defense, as well at Tyrus Thomas's youth, athletisim, and overall energy would solve a lot of problems for the Celtics...

the only question is... does it leave the Celtics with enough scoring threats? I say take defense and ball handling over 3 point shooting.

Well, at least Danny tried to do it. I was vocal here about my desire to bring him in, but the Bulls have their own agenda. It is also well known that they over value him in that organization, and have turned down some mighty good offers in the past. I was hoping that we could actually buy low on him.

If the offer from the Warriors for Ray Allen was true, I think that might be our best bet. I would try to get some of their younger players in such a deal, though. Morrow, and especially Randolph would look mighty good in the Green. We need some youth, athleticism and depth on this team.

I want Eddie House the hell out of here as well, to be honest. If Danny could pull off a couple of huge trades, I'd be all for it honestly. Keep Rondo, Paul, KG (because you can't trade him anyways), and Perk. Anyone else is fair game.

Ray is old and sucks at the end of games now. His legs are gone. Not his fault, just the way life goes. His expiring contract could help us land a really good player, and some depth to boot. If Danny is serious about how he wouldn't have held onto the real Big Three, he'll deal Ray. It is the right move to make. He is washed up as a prime time player.

I'd willingly give up two firsts to get the guy. He's a proven player and it's pretty obvious we aren't going to be developing those picks any time soon. As for him making too much to be our third guard, he could step in as a potential Ray replacement next year if he ends up leaving, he'd easily get starter minutes (almost all of Ray's and Rondo's backup minutes plus some three guard sets), and he's just good enough to warrant that.

However, with the ominous 'we made the offer last month', I'm assuming it's dead. Hinrich's would've been brought in as soon as possible if we could obtain him. Thing is, someone like the Lakers has a ton of expirings to throw at Chicago too, as do other teams. It's going to take more than we can offer Chicago.

Celtics need help rebounding, go after Troy Murphy.

Indy trades: Murphy, McRoberts
Boston trades: Davis, Scal, House, Giddens and 2010 1st rounder.

Better than what Cleveland is offering.

I'm sure Ainge is working the phones.

So if Kirk is not traded by the deadline and we haven't made another move, we will probably get kirk. Thats how i read that.
