Is UBUNTU gone?

“We are getting bored with it some,” he said, “but I think it’s a little bit of different agendas maybe creeping in. It just all depends. You know, I think if we all had the right spirit as far as one goal, one thing in common, I think we’d be a lot better.”

Rondo had hinted at trouble after Friday’s game in Atlanta when asked about the current team encountering adversity it hasn’t faced since the acquisitions of Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen.

“It’s a different team this year,” Rondo said then. “That’s our problem. A couple of years ago, we didn’t have the same team. We had the same main guys, but it’s still a team effort, from the first guy to the 15th guy.”

He still wasn’t getting into specifics in this latest discussion, but his comments were far stronger.

“I can’t really elaborate on it too much, but I think we’ve just got to be a team with no agendas,” Rondo said. “We’ve got to play unselfish, you know? That’s on defense and offense. You’ve got to want the best for the next man out there regardless if you’re in the game playing well or you’re out of the game not playing well.”

Asked if he and the Celts had tried to clear the air on this, he said, “We haven’t really been talking about it, but you’ve just got to know.

“In the locker room, you can feel it,” Rondo added. “You don’t feel like it’s the same continuity and camaraderie in the locker room as it was the first year. The first year, it was a crazy spirit in the locker room. But now it doesn’t feel the same. It’s not the same right now. We’ve got to find a way to get that back somehow, some way.”

Ever since that conflict in team meeting between the old and young guys last season things have not been the same. Simmons also reported there were some problems in the locker room at the beginning of this season if I am not mistaken.

That is a big reason why we are losing games, IMO. We aren`t a true team anymore. We still have the quality but just don`t give 100% all the time. That hunger, fire, camaraderie, UBUNTU are gone...

Rondo is coming out and saying this? Out of all the people, RONDO says this? The cockiest little most self centered player we have?I find it hard to believe..yea things aren't as ridiculously good as they were the first year, but that's not really the problem IMO. Ubuntu doesn't help you get rebounds...or does it?

*NVM. Just read the article, P and Perk are complaining too. I'm not really worried though. This isn't that hard to fix..I'd rather we know the answers to our problems, then not.

Not for nothing, but I don't think you have to like each other to win a championship. I'm pretty sure Pau/Kobe detest each other.

But, I wonder if this is a rift between young/old again....I can't figure out what he is referring to.

Playing 2,5 years with the same guys it is logical in time the team spirit goes down...you get annoyed by others, it is different of course. That is why we need some fresh blood, player or two to return that focus and intensity...the hunger is gone, a player desperately wanting a ring would be more than welcome now...Now we play the way...we are good, we are the Celtics, we will win somehow...

you're accusing Rondo of selfishness? He's game surely doesn't say that, at all.

No not on the court...but he is cocky, and he does complain when somebody mishandles one of his passes..don't think that helps Ubuntu much.

I think that Rondo is misunderstood really. By all accounts Rondo has a hard head and is stubborn, but it seems it was more in an effort to be a better player. Rondo could have easily gone out and tried to score 20+ a game when it was extension time, but he didn't do that. With Perk and and PP stepping up and agreeing it leaves us all to wonder who they are talking about, but regardless I'm not going to speculate.

We all know who are in contract years so those names will probably get dragged through the mud, but if some people here are complaining we shouldn't speculate at trade rumors, we certainly shouldn't speculate at "hidden agendas".

Like someone said, its easy to be happy go lucky and preach UBUNTU when your drilling opponents night in and night out, but now in the face of adversity the team has become one without an identity.

With that said I wish news hadn't come out about Pierces foot. He is the captain so the responsibility should start there. Something tells me that Pierce was about to take over this team with his scoring ability until this injury. Let's hope for our sake, he won't miss to much action.

This has been an off and on issue since December of our Championship season, imo. It really started rearing its ugly head at the beginning of last season and has seemed to become more and more of an issue since. I think Doc tends to exacerbate the issue, to be honest.

Agree on the point about Doc. In his postgame interviews and reading quotes by the players, Doc seems to be beating them over the head with a mantra rather than attempt to mitigate this possibility in a more creative way. Earlier in the year, in the heat of a gamethread, I suggested Doc bring a walker or wheelchair into the practice facility. The affect of the empty banner in 07/08 served as motivation for a group of veterans hungry for a title. Now that that hunger was satiated, the next best motivation is to attack their pride. Us versus them. They say we can't do it again. Coaching 101.

I think UBUNTU died when the Celtics didn't resign a popular Leon Powe and signed Rasheed Wallace. This is a far different team spirit wise the a few years ago IMO.

Your Ray Allen hate is obvious, at least try to hide it a little. That comment is absurd.

Wow, that would be great motivation, imo.

It seems to me that Doc's words and actions would lend themselves to creating a chasm between old and young and, to a lesser extent, starters and bench. I do like Doc and think he is a fantastic motivator, at times, but I think his downfall has often been deferring to name recognition players while, at the same time, talking out the other side of his mouth and throwing players under the bus.

My main issue with Doc is that if it is good for the goose it is good for the gander. If an offensively talented player is consistently taking plays off at the defensive end, hold them accountable. Doc seems to have no problem with removing less-established players. If a player is stinking up the joint, don't keep piling on the minutes. Don't preach about the importance of defensive rebounding and then pair Eddie House, Ray Allen, Glen Davis and Rasheed Wallace. Don't play Glen Davis huge minutes when he hasn't earned the minutes but then sit Shelden Williams when he has done everything he is capable of doing.

I think there is definitely a real issue here about being good a teammate but, as I stated, I think that Doc sometimes makes it worse by the contradiction of both his words and actions.

Sheed to me looks like he is just out there collecting a paycheck. No interest in anything else. Pretty sad.

your ray allen love is obvious hes overated and killing the team now

How is it absurd, Ray allen publicly says he doesnt like when players curse etc, KG , Sheed, PP all are big time trash talkers...Total opposite of what ray beleives and does

Plus hes just playing lousy basketball right now and you keep making excuses for him

Your anti-Rasheed Wallace agenda is showing. Quick before you are arrested for indecent exposure and cited for violation of the hypocrisy act of internet messageboards, go amend your posts. Tell me this is some subtle joke you are playing and that you didn't just submit subsequent posts, one on your theory regarding Leon Powe and then immediately after admonish another poster for putting forth their theory regarding Ray Allen?

Seriously. Aren't you the same one who cries whenever someone brings up the issue of the possibility of Ray Allen not being a good fit (notice that the question of his talent has never entered into the equation on my part)? I mean, I can recall bringing up this issue two years ago now and I do believe you were one of the most vociferous in opposition. How can you, with a straight face, enter your opinion into the ring for serious consideration by others and then ridicule another person for expressing their opinion? That is Laker or Raptor fan type 'ish.

Not true. He's very interested in screaming and 1, ball don't lie, and chucking 3's. He definitely hates shooting at a +50% clip from the post though

Joke Post? I'm one of first to point out Ray has played like crap lately but he's a locker room camraderie killer now

Two things.

1. 99% of PP34RA10 posts in the past month is something negative about Ray Allen. He or She is free to post whatever they want it just gets tiresome after a while.

2. I'm not opposed to trading Ray Allen but to say Ray Allen is all that is wrong with the Celtics is just as stupid as saying once KG comes back everything will be fine. Ray Allen hasn't been playing well but he is not the sole reason why the Celtics are 7-11 in the last 18 games.
