BOS holds better cards in BOS/CHI trade?

About this potential Chicago deal...I think in the end BOS holds the better cards in the hand - trading for Hinrich but just our small expiring contract.

I doubt there are a lot of teams that can and will offer expiring contracts for Hinrich

Chicago in the end must decide will they risk with Salmons whether he opts out or not. If he doesnt that costs them one max free agent or will they go safe trading Hinrich or Salmons. Trading both they have a possibility for near 2 max with around 27 mio of salary cap (Johnson+Lee/Boozer combination)

Boston could offer:

Scalabrine, T.Allen, Giddens, Walker
for
Hinrich, Hunter

http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachi ... Id=yz3vfqb

Chi only has 13 players signed so they can do 4 for 2 trade.

Basically they can pick 2 players
SCALABRINE-in
GIDDENS-in
T.ALLEN or HOUSE
WALKER or WILLIAMS

Any combination works in trade machine.

The only problem here is we take around 2 mio more back in contracts, meaning 4 mio in luxury tax.

RONDO/HINRICH
ALLEN/HOUSE or T.ALLEN
PIERCE/DANIELS
GARNETT/DAVIS
PERKINS/WALLACE

I think for sure BOS should wait till last second to decide.

Exactly! I was thinking this over last night and really where's Chicago's bargaining strength in this whole deal? The idea of trading Hinirch is purely financial for them. They can't expect to deal somebody off to get cap room, while also getting a good player in return. Its never worked that way in the NBA and I don't see why the dynamics of deals would start changing so Chicago can have their cake and eat it too.

I wouldn't trade expirings for Hinrich, he's making way too much. He's a decent bench guy, but we wouldn't have enough money to sign anyone else the next 3 or 4 years.

I'm not trading TA right now, he's just playing too well. This coming from a guy who before the season would have traded him for bag of basketballs.

I do like Hinrich and think he would fit in very well with the Celtics. But I dont' think he's worth giving up the expiring contracts for. I'd rather see if they could take on the contract of Luke Ridnour for the rest of the season and give up Veal/Sheldon/House and second round picks.

Again I think the problem is that we are talking about old news again, same with Nate Robinson. We made an offer several weeks ago to take on Kirk for expirings, as he and the team were struggling. Since then the Bulls put him in the starting line up and have gone 13/6 and he has played reasonably well.

Now something else is up and it looks like the Bulls have an interest in Ray Allen beyond this season, he may be someone they are targeting in FA as a short term add instead of going 5 years on a younger but worse player. From CHI's perspective it does not seem that Thomas is garnering much interest and likely is not the player that is going to take this from expiring crap to Ray Allen. Maybe they have simply talked about adding Salmons (who is a player Doc and Danny have liked in the past) as well but that is blowing out 3 top 8 guys for 1 for a playoff team and Boston gets better in their 9 man but is still worse 1 through 5. But a 3 for 1 that fills Boston's 2 biggest needs play maker and long athletic defender/rebounder off the bench and does a decent job of replacing Ray Allen with the lack of long term commitment for Boston is got to be something to consider.

Obviously the other far less likely is if the Bulls are discussing Luol Deng and they are just doing a good job of keeping that out of the media.

I wouldn't overrate Boston's hand here though this isn't Sam Cassell or Stephon Marbury, Hinrich is very popular around the league and in CHI, other teams want him as well and the Bulls can move him for nothing just as easily in the off season as they can before the deadline.

Scalabrine, House, Giddens, Walker for Hinrich, cap filler

No need for House if you get Hinrich IMO. A 2nd unit of Hinrich, TA, Daniels, Big Baby and Rasheed would be perfect for the Celtics.

Who are you even talking to?

I didn't even mention Tony Allen in my post. I wouldn't want to do the deal because Hinrich is making too much.

sully00, the Bulls are probably going to move Hinrich because they want the cap space next year. They may take the Celtics offer but there is no reason to do it now. The trade deadline is 13 days away and they may get a better offer from someone else. Hinrich could be part of a bigger deal. I wouldn't say the Celtics chances are dead, nothing is going to happen until after the all-star game on Feb14. All the GMs are going to be talking during all-star weekend.

On your first point, a host of teams like Delonte West too for many of the same reasons they like Hinrich. While he's popular, I don't know if his $8.5mm per season average cost over the next 2 years is very popular amoung GM's and team owners. That said, I do think there would be a market for him, but nowhere near equal value if the other team isn't shedding their own contract issues. Finally, on your last point, they can deal him in the offseason, but it does little to help their free agent coffers for this class then. It depends on what their motivation is, and if it is relegated to this offseason primarily.

Gee, I don't know, maybe he was talking to the guy who started the thread?

I don't think the Bulls pulled the trigger earlier cause they'd also lIke a pic for Hinrich..

If that 4 for 2 deal would be possible I would prefer T.Allen in a deal over House.

A combo Hinrich/House is offensively better than Hinrich/Allen. Also Daniels skills duplicate T.Allen so he is expandable. And one thing about Tony, dont overvalue him, still to inconsistent, turnover prone, no outside jumper...ok he plays good defense, but...

Just so you know, its pretty well documented that the Lakers are also willing to send expiring contracts to Chicago for Hinrich. We're not the only guys in pursuit of him.

How? There are two sides around a central basketball hoop, why is it accepted that there can only be one slasher on the court at a time? The critical part to a Hinrich like facilitator is that he is available to get the ball back and create something else as well as catching and shooting if the lane is not there for the slashers.

The original poster wants to trade Tony in the deal. Then Sunshine says to someone else you would have traded Tony for a some basketballs.

Who are the Lakers offering besides Morrisson? Boston can offer 2 rotation guys (TA and House).

Exactly, Celts17. I think the Bulls have strong motivation to move any or all of Hinrich/Salmons/Thomas before the deadline.

They're in a very nice position looking forward. They could have a young returning core of Rose, Deng, Noah with enough cap space this summer to offer two max deals if they unload a couple of contracts right now. Sure, they're playing well right now, but the bigger picture is possible dynasty. Imagine Rose, Deng, Noah, Lebron, (Wade/Bosh). Man alive. That would be pretty amazing, and they'd have the cap room to do it. So yeah, in spite of their recent good play, there's plenty of incentive on their end to deal Hinrich.

Cfan, Sunshine was saying that HE, at the start of the season, would have been willing to trade Tony for anything. But now, his feelings have done a 180.........in response to the OP's concept of including TA in a deal for Hinrich.....
