No Excuse for This! Cs 29/30 in Rebounding

http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball ... se_boards/I am a firm believer that rebounding is all about heart and dedication. This is just embarrassing, IMO. Championship teams don't come in next to last in rebounding. I know KG has been hurt. But, Sheed needs to get his ass away from the arc and Doc needs to demand it. I always felt that this team's weakness would be rebounding, but this is just embarrassing.
Ainge said the issue is effort and execution.
“I think it’s the same thing with our defense and the same thing with our offense,’’ he said. “It has nothing to do with what we’re doing, it’s nothing to do with the people, it’s just making an effort to do it.
“I know our guys can rebound. I have seen them do it.’
“I don’t think we need a rebounder, I think we need to rebound,’’ said coach Doc Rivers. “It’s amazing, we’ve added length to our team but everybody’s numbers are down.
“If you want to be a great team, you have to rebound better.’’

QFT. Poor rebounding is probably the thing that irks me most when watching a game, particularly seeing players not box out and thereby let teams like Atlanta gather an obscene number of offensive boards. Maybe right after careless turnovers in the hair-pulling department.
Miss a shot? OK, that happens. Miss an assignment? Let's talk about it in the huddle. But being lackadaisical towards the ball and letting smaller players slip in--- no excuse. I mean we've got large veteran bigs here.
If it wasn't for Rondo getting into the paint for rebounds we might be last in the league now.

Rebound deferential is the stat we should be looking at. Celtics are 19th in the league, which obviously isn`t good enough...

Agree...we a re shooting over 50% a lot of games and than in the 3 or 4 quarter when you watch the game the stats show and we shoot a lot better than opposing teams but they have the lead...
I agree with Ainge its about effort, but on the other hand we dont have explosive, agile young players...I sure would not mind one young rebounding pf...even sf

For me this the one stat that has been the big difference between this year's team and the previous two seasons. We are just not rebounding like we used to. We're giving up waaaayyyyyy to many offensive rebounds/second chance points.
The other stat where we are not so good, is turnovers. We as a team are always looking for the extra pass, so we have been a high turnover team for the last 2 and 1/2 years and this will likely continue. I can deal with that. We won a championship playing that way. What is different about this year is we are not rebounding like we used to. You can't score if you don't have the ball...
This has to improve for us to have a shot at a title this year. It's got nothing to do with youth. It's about making it a priority, keeping Sheed close to the basket and not out on the 3 point line, and KG getting his legs and his timing back.

Absolutely. We play the slowest tempo in the league... all per game stats will be artificially low as a result.

KG - cannot rebound like he use to
Sheed - was never a good rebounder
Davis - cannot rebound
Perkins - decent rebounder
Honestly, why is anyone surprised?

This is a great topic. If I'm Danny Ainge, I'm looking to move Rasheed Wallace for a physical inside player that can rebound and play defense. The Rasheed Wallace experiment hasn't worked out. Ainge should acknowledge this and work on a solution.

Anyone know how a certain former Celtic's rehab is going over in Cleveland?
If he comes back firing for them, it will get embarrassing very quickly...

Read an article today. Seems to be going well, and should be back after the AS break. Here is the link.

Yeah because I'm sure a washed up 35 year old chucker with major attitude problems and 2 more years on his contract after this year is going to land anything nice at all. The Wallace signing backfired, and now the Celts will likely have to just deal with it (until he becomes an expiring possibly).
