Real GM Baseball All Time 100 Ranking?

Post#1 » by SportsWorld » Tue Apr 3, 2007 2:27 am

Do we want to do it just like basketball where we nominate 5 players and vote for the one we like best....then nominate another player?
I think this will be fun and interesting.
I say we have a go at it.
Lets nominate the top 5 baseball players to start us off.
If a mod wants to take over be my guest.

Nominate: Babe Ruth

Those sound like a good 5.
Ruth
Bonds
Williams
Cobb
Mays

Anyone have anything different or should we start like that.
Hank Aaron?

That is clearly the top 5. Other guys to consider in the 6-10 range would include Walter Johnson, Honus Wagner, Lefty Grove, Mickey Mantle, Cy Young, Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez, Hank Aaron, Roger Hornsby, Mike Schmidt.

Just to help you guys out a little here all the players who have over a 150 WARP3 in there career:

Babe Ruth 234.2
Barry Bonds 233.1
Hank Aaron 209.7
Willie Mays 206.2
Walter Johnson 200.9
Roger Clemens 199.6
Stan Musial 197.4
Honus Wagner 194.6
Ty Cobb 189.8
Cy Young 178.3
Rickey Henderson 178.1
Eddie Collins 178.0
Mel Ott 175.8
Tris Speaker 173.3
Ted Williams 172.0
Cal Ripken Jr. 169.1
Joe Morgan 168.0
Nap Lajoie 167.3
Greg Maddux 165.4

Rogers Hornsby 163.5
Mike Schmidt 161.3
Cap Anson 159.5
Warren Spahn 155.9
Mickey Mantle 155.1
Pete Alexander 153.6

Not saying how this list should look, but it obviously helps out a little. And obviously you have to look at peaks, more, than just career.
