Which SS would you rather have?

JJ Hardy...hands down...in a nanosecond. And i'm not even the biggest JJ Hardy fan.

Well i think mine's obvious...

JJ Hardy.

Jhonny Peralta so easily. He actually has an established level of success at the MLB level. Hardy has like the first 200 atbats of this season and the rest are basically garbage.

JJ Hardy since May 21: 170 PA, .216 AVG, .294 OBP, .320 SLG.

I'm pretty sure his first month and a half was just a fluke as he's done nothing like that in the past.

This man speaks the truth. Peralta quite easily until Hardy proves he can hit major league pitching for more than 2 months (or pitching period, considering he wasn't even that good in the minors).

Well, if you know anything about the Brewers then you'd know that in the past they've been one of the worst fielding teams in baseball in recent years. JJ was brought up, not for his bat, but for his defensive ability. We honestly don't need him to hit better than .250 because our offense is just fine without him. Remember, he'll start hitting again cuz he's in the 2 hole infront of Braun and Fielder. Who would you rather pitch to...JJ Hardy, Ryan Braun, or Prince Fielder?

Hardy is a better fielder than Peralta and Peralta is only a career .268 hitter anyways. Regardless, that .268 is still better than Hardy at the plate.

Only reason I'm defending JJ is cuz he's my favorite player. He plays alot like I do. Thus the reason why I love him so much...

Thats an understatement.....and I dont even think Hardy is that good defensively.

you obviously don't get to watch Hardy play much cuz he's stellar in the field. Half of his errors this year have been scored wrong as a few should have been scored on Prince...

Ask anybody who plays shortstop and knows JJ Hardy. The kid can play the field as good as anybody.

Hardy's a career .258 hitter so Peralta is only 10 points higher for his career.

There's definitely a difference in hitting 2nd over 5th, 6th, or 7th (Hardy is the #2 hitter while Peralta is middle of the order). You see entirely different pitches.

Give it a lil more time. Hardy will start swinging. He's a hard strikeout and always makes good contact. He's just an unlucky hitter. Once his swings start finding the gaps like Peralta's then he'll be around a .300 hitter. I promise.

How bad is Peralta defensively? I'm lazy so I'm only looking at BPro's defensive stats, but he appears to be excellent (career 113 Rate2). I can't really remember him looking too far above or below average in the little time I've seen him to make a judgment, though.

He's a big dude so maybe people just assume he can't play short.

I think being a big dude hurts his range. Thats jut my opinion, that and he's never done anything to make me say wow, and i've seen him blow some easy plays

Blah blah blah defensive metrics not being fairly accurate blah blah blah.

Now that I got that out of the way, google "Jhonny Peralta" and defense. There seems to be very few people out there that have many positive things to say about his defense. Basically he's a marginal-average SS that gets by on good instincts.

Hardy's still a much better defensive player, though.

You have to somewhat when it comes to defense. Most defensive metrics are inherently flawed.

Eh, I don't trust other people when it comes to defense unless we're talking about otherworldly magicians like Adam Everett.

I find people really discredit guys on what they look like, which really is dumb. Derek Jeter looks acrobatic, Emil Brown looks like a (Please Use More Appropriate Word), one-legged, blind leper defensively. But which one sucks defensively and which one is actually kinda decent? Also, big guys are underrated defensively because they're big. And instincts are underrated; positioning is huge.

Are you saying Derek Jeter sucks defensively? For a crappy defensive shortstop you don't have to leave Boston

Sure he botches some easy plays, but tell me one player who is better going back on a pop up and tell me one player who is better ranging to his right in the whole. Come on....you cant.
