Who would you rather have?

Rick Ankiel.
Not to say he's any good, but there aren't too many players I'd take after Prior.

In their current state, or when they didn't have injuries/throwing illness?
If it's the former, then I say Prior. He was just so nasty. Pinpoint command of a mid 90s fastball and a nasty curveball. He could have been a perennial Cy Young winner... sigh..

In there current state. And then you saw Prior, what does that mean?

I meant "say", not "saw".
And what's the point of comparing them in their current state? Prior had surgery and Rick Ankiel is lighting up the minor leagues... it's a non debate.

He's a Cards fan.

So if you have surgery you have no value? He could still make a comeback and be frontline starter. Lighting up the minors, well not really, he hits a lot of HRs but thats about it. And really its just to compare 2 of what could have been the best pitchers in the game today and 2 of the best pitching prospects in the past decade.
He's a Cards fan.
And what does that mean? Cuz I'm thinking absolutely nothing, as I would probably take Prior over Ankiel. Wow, I just blew a Red Sox fans mind. Also didn't you say Rasmus was weak when compared to Ellsbury, you gotta be careful when you throw stones BG.

But one of them isn't a pitcher anymore.

Yeah, so do you take the risk of Prior coming back and still being a good pitcher or would you take the risk in a 28 year old in AAA who does nothing but hits HR.

Prior is set to return in '08 and going to win the CY Young.

Mark Prior by a landslide. Even though he will probably never heal, he had Cy Young material stuff.

I'll take Ankiel. Prior will never throw another useful pitch in the majors.
FWIW, Ellsbury is a million times better than Rasmus. 930 OPS as a 21-year old CF in AAA? That's pretty weak, Colby.

See, now you're making him look better than he actually is, he was only in weak AA. But two things you could say to bring him back up a little is his great BABIP and he was only 20 for almost all of the reason. But yeah, Ellsbury is million times better, just like Rich Hill will have an ERA under 3.50 this year.

Hey, if Rich Hill throws 30 scoreless innings to end the season he will have an ERA under 3.5.
Really, though--is Colby Rasmus going to be really **** amazing or what? .930 OPS, just a .299 BABIP with a 23% LD-rate, .276 IsoP, he's young, he plays CF. What more do you want? Top-5 prospects no doubt.
Too bad he'll be mired in the NL Central for a while.

I would take Prior.
Ankiel has gone downhill since the HGH story broke.
