I've been thinking in my mind that these were 2 of the greatest pitching performances ever because they were done in the postseason.

Schilling literally had blood oozing from his socks and shoes and pitched this game in Yankee Stadium and gave up 1 run and won the game.

Beckett was a rookie IIRC and pitched game 6 in Yankee Stadium vs Andy Pettite who I believed had the most wins in the postseason of active pitchers.

Which performance was greater in your mind?

It was Schilling's bloody sock game by a mile.
He was literally pitching with a broken ankle.

Schilling's ankle was not broken. It was a tendon that was messed up.

I'd still give it to the Schill tho, I can't imagine having to do all that. And then still have to be great in the game.

Its almost possible to choose because they were both against the same team. I'd have to say Schilling though because it was a must win game and he was injured.......

I'd have to consider Lowe's awesome 2004 game 7 performance on 2 days rest to be on the same level to Beckett's performance

Derek Lowe doesn't get a fraction of the respect he deserves in this city.

Because he wasn't very good the last few seasons with us, the playoffs aside. Remember, he was bumped from the rotation originally.

Beckett made his major league debut in 2001 so he was not a rookie in 03. That aside, throwing a complete game shutout on short rest in the World Series, in NY was just disgusting. The Schilling game definitely gets more press, and he deserves what he gets, but the game Beckett pitched was better. mahalo
