Who do you think is better at the game of baseball.

This year Pedroia, but in their primes I think that Kendrick can put up numbers similar to Cano or very close to it, which will dwarf Pedroia statistically.

Cano and Pedroia had basically the same season last year. How is that dwarfing?

Kendrick looks like he'll need to hit .350 to match Cano or Pedroia offensively.

Kendrick. He is going to win a few batting titles.

I expect Cano to hit 20-25 home runs with 45-50 doubles and 100+ RBI. If Pedroia matches that, I'll put my own foot in my mouth. Like I said, I don't expect Kendrick to do that yet but when he breaks out ('09 or '10) he will be that type of hitter...maybe not AS good as Cano but better than Pedroia.

The only reason that Pedroia was even remotely close to Cano last season is because Cano hit .269 with 3 home runs through July 1st. Something tells me that isn't happening in 2008.

Why do you expect Cano to liftoff into outerspace in terms of power? His swing is pretty level. How is he going to hit 25 HR with 50 doubles? He's a linedrive hitter. 25 HR and 50 doubles from a 2B has happened once in history. By a guy who doesn't even play 2B anymore. Your man, Alfonso Soriano.

Pedroia had a .206 batting average on May 5. Something tells me that isn't happening in 2008. Wow, I can play that "throw out all the bad stats" game too.

so say we had to rank a foursome of AL 2nd basemen w/the 3 already mentioned and ian kinsler?

i really think he'll breakout this year and his defense is improving, though his splits could be better but would most agree he has the most power in the group?

I said 20-25 homers, the guy hit 18 two years ago and 19 last year (with 3 through the first 3 months). You don't think he can add another 2 or 3? As for the doubles, yes 50 was probably a little too high (he has hit 41 each of the past 2 seasons) but if he is hitting for all 6 months like he is capable, 45 is completely realistic. He'll have his 100 runs, 100 RBI, 200 hits, 20-25 homers, 40-45 doubles. I don't see how Pedroia even compares to that.

You can play that game, but the point is that Cano has done it before. You and I know very well that Cano is not the type of hitter who will hit .270 with 3 homers through 3 months on regular occasion. I never said that Pedroia can't hit for average, he does and he takes his walks. But his power numbers and overall run production will not come close to Cano's, and I don't see how that is such a far-fetched statement at all.

I'd say he and Cano are about the same power-wise. Their 2007 numbers:

Cano: 19 HR, 41 doubles, 7 triples in 617 AB. ISO: .182

Kinsler: 20 HR, 22 doubles, 2 triples in 483 AB. ISO: .178

Kinsler is probably a better HR hitter, but Cano has him beat on XBH's.

I wouldn't completely rule out ever seeing a 25-homer, 50-double year from Cano, but i'd bet it'd be more of a career-year type performance than anything he starts doing annually. His power is about where it should be...which is terrific for a 2B.

Pedroia? LOL.
