On the University of Missouri basketball Web site on page 44 of the game notes, freshman point guard Miguel Paul lists Hornets point guard Chris Paul as his first cousin.
However, when a senior student from the university, Michael Kelly, who is from Mandeville, came to the Hornets' practice Tuesday to do a story for an NBC affiliate in Columbia, Mo., Chris said he had no idea who Miguel was.
As the Hornets were completing shooting drills, Paul was asked by Kelly to talk about his cousin, Miguel.
"Who?" I never heard of him," Paul said, before asking teammate James Posey if he had heard of him.
As he walked out of the Alario Center after practice, Chris still had no recollection of Miguel.
Miguel, who was a top recruit from Lakeland, Fla., wears the same number as Paul. According to Miguel's bio, his father, Masha, played football at Winston-Salem State, which is located in the same North Carolina city where Chris was born.
Kelly said Miguel goes by MP3, a spinoff from Chris' CP3 nickname.
Missouri associate director of media relations David Reiter met with Miguel on Tuesday to clarify the situation. Reiter said Miguel, who could not be reached for comment, made an error on his bio questionnaire when he stated that Chris is his first cousin.
"Obviously, we wish it was correct," Reiter said. "It would save us a lot of trouble, but Miguel probably was mistaken there saying that."
