Lakers @ Hornets (01/09/08)

Post#1 » by 2poor » Wed Jan 9, 2008 2:59 pm

I'll add more later if/when I get the time.

NEW ORLEANS HORNETS (23-11) VS. LOS ANGELES LAKERS (21-11)

Time/place: 7 p.m., New Orleans Arena.

TV/Radio: CST; 102.9-FM.

Notable: At 23-11, the Hornets have their best record through 34 games in franchise history. The Hornets' starters scored 111 of the team's 118 points in Saturday's victory against the host Phoenix Suns. Forward David West is back at full speed after missing the Phoenix game with a bruised left hip. . . . Lakers star Kobe Bryant leads Western Conference guards in the latest fan balloting. . . . Hornets forward Peja Stojakovic made a franchise-record 10 3-pointers and scored 36 points in the Hornets' 118-104 victory against the Lakers on Nov. 6 at the Staples Center. Chris Paul had a franchise-record 21 assists and just two turnovers and finished with 19 points. . . . Forward Melvin Ely is expected to play tonight with a protective face guard after his left eye socket was fractured Dec. 12. . . . There are less than 4,000 tickets available for tonight's game. . . . The Hornets have won three consecutive games and eight of their past nine.

NOLA.com wrote:It'll take a little doing for the New Orleans Arena to be filled to capacity or beyond tonight for the Hornets' game against the Lakers, but smart money says the tickets that remained unsold this morning will be claimed by tip-off. That would make tonight the same as Dec. 29, when the team hosted Cleveland.

And it would serve as irrefutable proof that basketball fans in and around New Orleans have the ability and willingness to recognize and appreciate galactic stars like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James.

What they haven't shown a propensity for is recognizing and appreciating the sun around which their team revolves. Or for that very team, a squad that has a better record than Kobe's Lakers and LeBron's Cavaliers, one that has a better record than all but four of the NBA's 30 teams.

At least, they haven't shown it regularly.

It takes Kobe and LeBron to come to town in order for thousands of "fans" here to see what they're missing in Chris Paul? They need to go to the Arena to see the Lakers or Cavaliers in order to stumble upon the fact that the Hornets are damn good?

Fans need not wait for Bryant to pack N.O. Arena

both teams are on some nice streaks at the moment.

IMO< Paul is going to completely destroy the Lakers. I wouldnt be surprised if he pulls out a 20/17/6 type performance tonight.

Im predicting a NO win, but you never know.

Good luck guys.

Hmm, not shirtless, but still good.

CP3 looks fired up early, if the refs decide to start calling 3-second violations we'll probably be in better shape. :D

Lakers start the game 8/9 from the floor but only lead by 6. :o

The first part of this game was really ugly the hornets were too static and the lakers couldn't miss a shot. The thing about the run that i see being the failure is that they failed to run their offense with Peja getting more involved, i have been watchign the hornets this whole season and he is the x-factor of this team as long as he is involved the team does well. Paul, Chandler and West will get their own but with the lack of scoring and productivity off the bench the hornets need to get their two other shooters involved. At the end even though Peja was missing he was still spreading the defense and thats what he brings to the team he stretches the defense and opens up the lanes for paul and west to operate. So if hornets are going to win this they need to play better interior defense and get Peja more involved.

Ugly first half, we need to step up defensively in the second half, big time :-\

Lakers will cool off, the defensive effort has been there.

7-0 run to close the half, an 11-point deficit with momentum to start the half isn't insurmountable by any means.

Crowd looks good and they're certainly into the game, I think we're still in for a good game.

For a team that is just made up of 5 or 6 guys the hornets are doing great. But this game is just an example of this team not being able to ride on Chris and David the whole game. Peja should have been able to get open shots the whole game and knock them down, as lakers cant defend the perimeter very well.

I know this is kinda off, but it seems JJ Reddick is shown intrest to teams, and this team needs a guy to get open and hit shots, just saying, i could see Rasul Butler in a Orlando uniform.(sorry Rasul).

CP3 is the man. Him, Kobe and KG are battling it out for MVP thus far IMO.

No doubt in my mind what so ever that Paul has been the best PG in the league this season.

Andrew Bynum just played a terrific game and really abused Chandler down low and exposed Chandlers defense. Byron Scott lost us this game his rotations where just ineffective and i feel we are defiantly better than what we should tonight. Get rid of Bobby Jackson, Pargo i like keep him either ship armstrong or send him to a psychologist so he can work stuff out in his head no reason for him not to do what Chandler does all the tools are there just his mentality is garbage and he is reduced to playing like a scrub. Paul got caught up in the hype today and just tried to do too much down low was not workign for the hornets but they kept force feeding it down anyway. Byron has to recognize that the shooters were non existent in the game and it was dreadful to watch. Unless you are a Lakers fan. Peja was used ineffectively and barely saw any time the boxscore says 17 minutes that is just ridiculous, considering the fact that the bench was not producing anything. I dont care if the Hornets lose its just the way they lost. If they want to stay competative paul has to realize getting his teammates involved early and then taking over in the fourth is the way to go. When Paul distributes early Hornets get going. Was i the only one that sensed a little tension between the starters today?
