Long-term deal within the next 10 weeks?

Post#1 » by 2poor » Fri Mar 7, 2008 12:52 am

From a member on another forum:

They just had an interview with Shinn on ABC26, who was talking about the national tv game vs. the Pistons, and also said he and Ron Forman had sat down last week and set a timeline of 10 weeks to get a new deal with the state completed that would "anchor" them down, without the opt-out clauses. Also said that they would probably continue to practice at the Alario Center for a while..

will provide link as soon as one becomes available.

NOLA.com wrote:Only two months after signing a new lease agreement, Hornets owner George Shinn said he has told state officials that he is interested in renegotiating for a long-term deal that would ensure the franchise remains in New Orleans for the next 10 years without any exit clauses or attendance benchmarks.

Superdome Commission Chairman Ron Forman confirmed Friday night that he talked to Hornets officials about a long-term deal in the past week, but he would not elaborate.

It is unclear what triggered the discussions, which came only two months after the state and Hornets signed a five-year lease extension that allows the club to terminate or renegotiate the deal if the market does not support the team.

Shinn said he wants to finalize a new deal, which would call for financial incentives from the state, within the next 10 weeks.
