Pre-Draft Summit

Post#1 » by APerna » Mon Jun 9, 2008 12:36 am

Hey posters,

First of all, I'm sorry that your team wasn't able to make it to the WCF. I definitely identify with you, since my Pacers weren't even able to make it that far. I am looking to put together NBA Summits for each team as the Draft draws closer.

I put together a ton of these on the NFL forums heading into the draft and they were wildly successful. I hope for the same here, and I know the population of these boards will lend itself to many responses.

Editor Chris Reina and I have put together these seven questions for you all to answer, with the best answers making it into posted pieces on our main page. The only thing that I ask is that you please limit your responses to two sentences per question. Please try your best to heed that request, it makes the Summits easier to read and quicker to put together.

Thanks gang, and best of luck in the Draft.

Find a way to make Peja effective against Bowen and not given San Antonio so many wide open looks at 3's.

2. Where were the team

I'd like to see the Hornets select the best available big man or 2 guard. They will then attack free agency accordingly. If they go big, they will target a 2G like Roger Mason in free agency and if they go with a 2G, they will get a big player in free agency.

I like the idea of getting Chris Douglas Roberts but I doubt he's on board at that point. Brandon Rush is intriguing as is Courtney Lee.

As for big people, Jason Thompson and JJ Hickson would be good choices as well.

1. What could the team have done differently to advance in the playoffs?

Less double teams on Tim Duncan, forcing him to beat us alone and not letting the shooters get hot.
2. Where were the team’s biggest strengths?

Defense, rebounding, fast break, dribble penetration, pick and roll.
3. Who had a surprisingly effective season?

Not really surprised by what anyone did to be honest, Julian Wright actually getting play time was surprising, but not his production

4. Who had a surprisingly ineffective season?

Mike James... Hilton Armstrong and Melvin Ely could have been a lot better

5. How confident are you in the front office heading into the offseason?

Pretty confident, they grabbed Chandler, signed West to a great contract, and completely rebuilt the team about 3 years.
6. What are the team’s biggest needs in the draft?

Athletic slashing wings, big man depth
7. Who would you like your team to select?

Bill Walker

I agree with less double teams on Duncan and maybe getting to the rim and the free throw line more when outside shots weren't falling.

2. Where were the team’s biggest strengths?
Pick and roll, rebounding, defense

3. Who had a surprisingly effective season?
The rookie Julian Wright

4. Who had a surprisingly ineffective season?
Hilton Armstrong

5. How confident are you in the front office heading into the offseason?
Very. Bower has been doing well so I'm confident he'll continue to build this team into a good one.

6. What are the team’s biggest needs in the draft?
Athletic, slashing shooting guard, big man depth and another backup PG if Pargo isn't re-signed.

7. Who would you like your team to select?
Either Courtney Lee or CDR if either is available.
